Green Corps is Hiring Next Class of Environmental Organizers!
Green Corps is looking for college graduates who are ready to take on the biggest environmental challenges of our day.
Click here to learn more about Green Corps’ paid environmental organizing fellowship.
Our program starts by putting you in an intensive classroom training. You learn about issues and campaigns, organizing theory and principles, and skills from recruiting volunteers to staging a media event. Then, you move to a more hands-on experience. You make a difference on important campaigns to transition our country to clean energy, protect wildlife, and more. For example, Lauren Karpinski, an organizer from the Green Corps Class of 2019, brought together a coalition of 40 groups that helped win a landmark solar energy bill in Arkansas this past year.
The planet needs all the help it can get. To win now and build a strong foundation for lasting progress, we need people who know how to organize: to run organizations and campaigns that will inspire the support and action we need to save our planet.
We’re accepting the top 20 out of more than 1000 applicants for our 2021-2022 program. If you’re passionate about the environment and ready to learn and practice the craft of organizing, Click here to apply.
Green Corps’ year long program begins in August 2021 with Introductory Classroom Training, and continues with field placements in multiple locations across the U.S. Candidates must be willing to relocate. For the foreseeable future, all of our staff are working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact field organizer, Caro Fett, directly at (203) 940-0689 or caro[at]greencorps.org.

Winter Term 2021 Practicum in International Sustainable Development
The Andean Alliance for Sustainable Development has re-posted their winter term internship opportunity with a deadline of November 25th.
Students, you may apply for Cross-cultural Community Service Grants funding through the Center for Community Engagement, which has a deadline of December 2nd. CCE has generously offered to support AASD applications, but students will need to apply individually by the deadline, as there is not a pre-set amount of funding dedicated for AASD participants only as we have had in place for past j term cohorts. It is the responsibility of the student to secure their own funding as needed, secure the position with AASD, apply for winter term credit, and to find a faculty sponsor by December 2.
This is a tall order, but if you happened to have seen the recent screening of The Potato King documentary last week, which included utterly beautiful footage of the Peruvian landscape where the Andean Alliance for Sustainable Development works, you might be motivated to get this done! This virtual internship with them won’t be like a visit, but it will help you learn about the culture and resources of Peru. The deadline for applications to do the internship is November 25.
Be a Climate Action Intern This Winter Term & Get Credit!
Intern with the South Burlington Energy Committee (SBEC), a volunteer group that reports to the City Council, in assisting the City of 18,000 residents to develop the promised Climate Action Plan to achieve local CO2 emissions reductions in line with the Paris Climate goals and supporting the City’s long term commitment to address the climate crisis. Apply for Winter Term internship for credit and challenge yourself to apply your liberal arts learning in a real-world setting and an opportunity to reflect on the connections between your classroom climate change education and hands-on learning. Learn more about getting WT credit HERE.
The Winter Term 2021 SBEC Climate Action Intern will support the SBEC in building the foundation of information that South Burlington requires to define specific goals and to evaluate the progress and effectiveness of the actions the city is undertaking to address its climate goals. As an intern you will tap into these skills: data & analytics, finance, operations / production, writing / editing and communications. During the project, you will work with a team of stakeholders, not limited to: city staff, school staff, utility representatives from Vermont Gas, Green Mountain Power, and Efficiency Vermont, fuel dealers, staff from the CCRPC (Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission), state employees, people from state and national organizations that specialize in emissions inventories, members of other energy committees, and university researchers.
Don’t wait – get your application in for this tight deadline on November 23rd!

Considering a Winter Term Internship for Credit?
Here are the steps to follow if you want to participate in a Winter Term internship AND receive credit for it. (Please note: Sophomores through Super Seniors who have been enrolled for Fall ’20 are eligible to earn Winter Term credit through an internship.)
STEP 1: Have your resume approved by a CCI Peer Career Advisor (PCA). No appointment necessary. See go/PCAs for days/times. Please note you must visit a PCA before Dec. 2 if your resume has not been previously approved; PCAs will be on break the week of Thanksgiving.
STEP 2: Secure your internship. See go/findinternships for tips or make an appointment with a CCI advisor or visit a PCA for help.
STEP 3: Find a Middlebury faculty member to serve as your academic sponsor. See FAQ at go/WTinternships for more info on academic sponsors. Because we are approaching the Dec. 2 deadline, students should work on this step even before they secure their internship.
STEP 4: Write your personal statement for your application for credit including 3 scholarly sources (see FAQ at go/WTinternships).
STEP 5: Download the Internship Agreement Form, read it, and initial all sections.
STEP 6: Create an Experience in Handshake – this is your application for credit. (Find it at go/Handshake>Career Center>Experiences>Create an Experience.) Select Winter Term Application for Credit/Funding and Winter Term 2021 and answer all questions marked with an asterisk. Immediately after submitting, attach your personal statement, your CCI-approved resume, and a signed Internship Agreement. Several funding grants are available for students on financial aid on a first-come, first-served basis (you will be asked questions about applying for funding as you complete the Funding application).
Internship credit is approved on a rolling basis up until December 2. Apply now!
Information, FAQs, Timeline & Checklist here!
Extensions of a day or two (but not more) may be allowed in rare circumstances out of your control (e.g. waiting for a firm internship offer, waiting for answer from faculty academic sponsor) only for students who contact Cheryl Whitney Lower or another CCI advisor before the December 2 deadline. Plan ahead!
