Sustainability & Clean Energy Internships & Jobs
Below are some internships and jobs from our friend Ed Carley over at Ed’s Clean Energy & Sustainability Jobs newsletter. He’s got some amazing resources all curate nicely for you and when I read about the internships they should be right up your alley (see below): environmental justice, renewables, urban tech, etc. If you aren’t subscribed to this email and you’d like to be, please sign up here: edsjobslist.com.
The first article shared is about Middlebury alum, Jamie Henn ’07, who was a co-founder and communications director of 350.org and has now launched Fossil Free Media, a nonprofit media lab dedicated to supporting the movement to end fossil fuels, which is killin’ it on calling out PR firms that are helping the fossil fuel companies survive and continue to ‘greenwash’. Check out the article in Huffington Post here: PR Firms Are Being Shamed For Helping Fossil Fuel Companies ‘Green’ Their Image (Huff Post).

Middlebury Study Away Program-CA Climate Semester: Resilience, Solutions, Justice
The all new California Climate Semester, which will be offered for the first time in Winter Term and Spring Term of 2022 is now open and accepting applications. Middlebury College students will spend the winter and spring at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey learning from climate leaders at the graduate level.
Middlebury College students have the chance to access the extraordinary resources of the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS), which features a Master of Arts in International Environmental Policy, Center for the Blue Economy, and connections with hundreds of environmental and non-governmental organizations.
Professor Dan Brayton, Professor of English and American Literatures and Program Director of the Environmental Studies program at Middlebury College will be directing the program for the first two years.
As a new program, they are expecting to enroll ~15 Middlebury undergraduates in the inaugural 2022 program (January-May). Students will live in the new student dorm located near the Midd campus in Monterey. (Re)construction of the facility is currently underway. Students will enroll in a team-taught Winter Term course in Monterey followed by four courses in the spring (2 electives taught by MIIS International Environmental Policy colleagues, one place-based course taught by the Director, and one practicum).
Applications for the semesters are due by February 1st of the year preceding the spring semester away (so for this first cohort, this February 1st, 2021). Start an application or write to Programs Assistant, Heather Sitkie to request information or assistance.

Call for Applications: Master’s Program in European & Mediterranean Studies, NYU
The Center for European and Mediterranean Studies (CEMS) at New York University is pleased to announce a call for applications to its Masters in European and Mediterranean Studies program.
Applications for Fall 2021 are being accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. Tuition scholarships will also be offered to candidates accepted to the MA program. It is recommended to apply as soon as possible, as funds are limited. The Master’s in European and Mediterranean Studies is an interdisciplinary program in the social sciences and humanities that is designed to prepare students for professions in the public, non-profit, or private sectors requiring an advanced understanding of Europe and the Mediterranean region. Our graduates also go on to pursue Ph.D. studies in history, political science, international relations, international development, and a range of other fields.
In addition to courses offered by the CEMS Department, graduate students may take classes with a European/Mediterranean focus offered by other departments—including, but not limited to, history, politics, anthropology, cinema studies, French studies, Italian studies, Irish studies, and many other disciplines. Students may also take courses at other NYU schools—such as the School of Law or Graduate School of Public Service—as well as at Columbia University, through a special Consortium agreement existing between the two institutions.
CEMS students have the advantage of being part of a small department with dedicated faculty, ensuring close access to professors, while being part of a large research institution with a wide variety of resources available to them. Additionally, if students want to gain more professional experience, they can take advantage of the many internship opportunities in New York City, most of them for academic credit. Students can also broaden their studies with various opportunities abroad, and are encouraged to apply for summer grants to perform research, to work, or to study abroad. In the past, our candidates have received funding to study at one of our several NYU campuses abroad, to work at various NGOs, think tanks, and other European organizations, or to carry out research either independently or in the program of their own choosing.

Meridian Institute is pleased to announce the opening of the tenth annual application cycle for our Ruckelshaus Fellowship Program! Build Your Leadership Skills in the Nonprofit & Philanthropic Sector in CO
The El Pomar Internship is a unique summer program that introduces continuing undergraduate students to the nonprofit sector and provides an opportunity to develop professional interests and skills. Interns work with and are mentored by leaders in philanthropy. They serve an important role by providing administrative support for the Foundation’s offices. Interns receive assignments based upon the Foundation’s needs and, to the extent possible, the Interns’ interests. Interns participate in a weekly professional development series which provides insight into and practice in a professional atmosphere. Examples of past courses include investments, grant making, networking, public speaking and career planning. Each Intern fulfills an individual role but also receives meaningful interaction with the Intern class. While each Intern has a distinct learning experience, all have the opportunity to learn concepts through hands-on practice and receive the support and guidance to develop professionally. Applicants should demonstrate strong professional skills, skills in verbal and written communication, organization and time management skills, and a willingness to learn.
To learn more about the Internship, visit our website or email internship@elpomar.org and Danielle Hendrix, Internship Director, will contact you.
