To Undergraduate Students Interested in Dentistry:
Harvard School of Dental Medicine’s chapter of the American Student Dental Association is offering a seven-week virtual course entitled “Introduction to Dentistry” for undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in dentistry. This program aims to provide a multifaceted, unique introduction to the field of dentistry and will feature lectures and small group sessions led by current Harvard dental students. Topics will include the science of dentistry, specialty fields within dentistry, and how to successfully apply to dental school (see full list below). This course will meet on Tuesday evenings during the spring of 2021 over Zoom.

Attendance: This is a great opportunity for pre-dental students, but there are limited seats. For fairness, we expect that those who sign up for this course are able to attend every session. Those with perfect attendance will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course.
Signing up: The Google Form to sign up will open on January 25th 6 PM EST, so mark your calendars! The form will close on February 3rd, 7 PM EST. We will accept students on a first-come first-serve basis, so we recommend that those with a serious interest sign up sooner rather than later.

Fee: The cost to participate in this course is $15, but we will waive if needed. If you need the fee waived, it would be best to let us know by sending us an email to asda.at.harvard@gmail.com BEFORE January 25th. A seat will only be reserved for you once the Google form is submitted AND a payment is received/waived by us.
What to Expect After Signing Up: After sign-ups close on February 3rd, we will notify you via email if you have a seat or if you will be placed on the waitlist. If you are placed on the waitlist, we will hold onto your $15 until the first day of the course, February 16th, just in case a seat becomes available. If no seat becomes available for you by February 16th, we will return your payment via Venmo.
We have been offering this course for a number of years and are pleased to be able to offer it again in 2021. We consistently receive positive feedback from participants that express that the course is engaging, informative, and strengthens their interest in dentistry.

This is a unique opportunity for a person interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. Vermont Orofacial Pain Associates (VOPA) specializes in the treatment of patients who seek care from specialist in Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD), Orofacial Pain, Sleep Apnea and Oral Medicine. For Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) and Orofacial Pain, VOPA provides non-surgical treatment. This often includes oral appliances hand-crafted and maintained in our clinic. Oral Medicine includes a broad variety of conditions that adversely affect the oral cavity. Your assistance for biopsies, injections and excisions may be required for some of these patients. Both orofacial pain and oral medicine are recognized specialties in the profession of dentistry.
We serve patients from all over Vermont, upstate New York and New Hampshire. In order to continue providing access to care during the pandemic we have updated our procedures and clinic equipment to improve safety for patients and staff. We prioritize our clinical staff’s and patient’s safety and concerns. We expect professionalism, teamwork and reasonable consideration in any collaborative efforts to problem solve. This is a challenging environment to work in, but our ability to help patients in need makes the work worth it. The culture in our office is maintained by providing nationally recognized expertize in our field and is grounded in the fact that we are also a generationally small family run business. Responsibilities include extensive subjective and objective patient interviewing and assessment, fitting and maintenance of oral appliances, transcribing narrative reports, clinic stewardship, and maintaining a safe COVID-19 protocol.

Based at Harvard Medical School and MGH’s Institute for Technology Assessment, MJ Lab develops and uses simulation models and data science methods to understand complex public health issues and inform decision and policymaking. The lab has a successful history of hosting MPH students from BU.
The lab invites applicants for internship positions for spring, summer, and/or fall 2021. The candidates are expected to assist the research team with literature search, data analysis, and writing the results. There are several ongoing analytical and modeling projects at the lab; one of the major areas of research is the development of a national, population-level simulation model to inform opioid policies and conduct economic evaluations. The lab has also been analyzing the impacts of COVID-19 on opioid overdose deaths and opioid use disorder treatment.
Candidates will work in a collaborative, productive, and friendly research team, writing scientific articles and research proposals. You can work remotely or at the lab. Please keep in mind this position is temporary in nature.

Excerpt from the job description:
The incumbent works under the general direction of the Chief of the Hand and Upper Extremity Service and is required to work with physicians, clinical nurses, and staff to identify and recruit eligible patients for clinical studies. This incumbent will be the primary compliance officer for the Hand Service, responsible for obtaining regulatory approval at both the local and federal level for the service’s research endeavors.
