- Policy Associate – J-PAL Global at Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab: The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) J-PAL is recruiting a Policy Associate for work in Agriculture, Health, Firms, Finance and/or Social Protection to contribute to its mission of promoting evidence-informed policy. - Data Fellow at Grist: Grist is a nonprofit, independent media organization dedicated to telling stories of climate solutions and a just future. This fellowship will run for six months, beginning January 31, 2022. The fellow will report to Grist’s data reporter.With the mentorship and support of Grist’s editorial staff, the data fellow will be expected to report and write stories informed by datasets, and create data visualizations to support both their own and others’ reporting. Interest in climate and environmental science and policy; Demonstrated familiarity with data reporting, data science, and/or applied statistics ; Familiarity with at least one scripting language, such as R or Python is a plus; Familiarity with at least one data visualization language, library, or suite, such as D3.js, ggplot2, or Tableau is a plus.

We are looking for third and fourth year undergraduate students who want to be fully immersed in our entrepreneurial, collaborative, and hard-working environment, while assisting in the financial aspects of project construction and operation.
- International Development Internship – Spring 2022 Associate at The Kaizen Company: The Kaizen Company (Kaizen) is an international development consulting firm and an incubator for innovative, scalable solutions that address emerging market challenges and opportunities. As a USAID implementing partner, we aspire to transform the nature and impact of international development. This internship is best suited for undergraduate students interested in entering the field of international development. The internship comes with a modest stipend. Vital Communities, a regional nonprofit located in White River Junction, VT, seeks two full time additions to our Housing and Transportation Team to develop and implement integrated, community-based projects that work toward affordable, safe, efficient, reliable, and equitable transportation and housing in the Upper Connecticut River Valley. Successful candidates will have a passion for working collaboratively with community members, volunteers, and peer organizations. Qualifications include excellent project management, communication, and collaboration skills, and an understanding of transportation and home creation as complex, dynamic systems.

Winter Term 2022 Wetland Mapping Internship at VT Dept. of Environmental Conservation
Spend your Winter Term helping the State of Vermont cataloguing and mapping valuable wetland ecosystems and get Middlebury academic credit while doing it. The internship will focus on updating Geographical Information Systems (GIS) mapping products, as well as providing assistance in the form of data management. In this internship the individual will learn how to identify wetlands remotely, digitize and attribute wetlands in ArcGIS, and how integral mapping is to the success of wetland protection. Tasks will focus on developing and improving wetland mapping products in the Esri ArcPro environment and include:
- digitizing and coding historic wetland delineations,
- editing existing wetland datasets,
- learning how to map wetlands remotely via “heads up digitizing”
The intern will have the support of professionals with mapping experience who will provide training in aerial interpretation and other mapping tools. At the end of the internship, mapping efforts will be reviewed and then published publicly online to the VT Natural Resources Atlas.

Public Policy and International Affairs JSI Fellowship
The Junior Summer Institute Fellowship is a rigorous academic preparation program for diverse undergraduate juniors committed to public service. Hosted at six sites across the US, this fully-funded opportunity equips fellows with the knowledge and skills they will need to succeed in graduate school and, ultimately, in influential roles serving the public good, including with government, nonprofits, public policy institutions, and international organizations. The purpose of the JSI Fellowship is to prepare students to obtain a Master’s or joint degree, in international affairs, public policy, public administration, or a related field. CSCE Fellowships with a Policy or Communications Focus
The Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe seeks candidates for its Max Kampelman Fellowship program. The program is open to recent undergraduates, current undergraduate students, and current graduate students with previous internship experience. Fellows work in political and military affairs, economic and environmental matters, or respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. Fellows are paid $25 per hour and are offered ongoing enrichment, professional development, and networking opportunities facilitated by senior commission staff. GirlSecurity Virtual National Security Fellowship
The National Security Fellows program is a stipended 15-week knowledge and professional development program designed to allow participants to develop a meaningful understanding of national security, build enduring skills for the future workforce, cultivate the type of relationship-based networks, and curate opportunities to advance throughout college into career. The Fellows program will require 3-5 hours of individual and collaborative learning, project management, and reflection per week. A $1,000 USD stipend will be distributed upon completion of the fellowship. Intern(s) will work with CNS experts on substantive issues in areas such as Eurasia East Asia Chemical and Biological Weapons International Organizations and Nonproliferation Export Control and Nonproliferation Middle East Nonproliferation
New Tools for nonproliferation (especially appropriate for applicants with special skills in geospatial analysis, 3D modelling using Blender, video editing, machine learning, or similar subjects).
CNS is a pioneer in the use of “new tools” such as open source information and computer modeling to revolutionize nonproliferation and disarmament research and education. The creative use of satellite imagery, geospatial data, 3-dimensional (3D) modeling, virtual reality environments, and social media platforms provides exciting new opportunities for NGOs working on nonproliferation issues.
Undergraduate interns will have opportunities to work with such exciting and innovative nonproliferation projects for the Nuclear Threat Initiative website and other CNS research projects with a team of CNS experts during the winter internship.
