Interview with Arthur Mittnacht IV ’09: Finance with an International Twist

Arthur Mittnacht IV graduated in a tough jobs climate in 2009, but managed to land on his feet at the New York branch of the German finance firm, Commerzbank. After training in London, he now works in Corporate Solutions Sales. He recently returned to Middlebury on homecoming weekend to share his journey and discuss the possibilities for Midd Kids to work at Commerzbank.

Life After Middlebury: Top 10 Advice from Beyond

Career Services recently held a panel discussion for graduating seniors about “Establishing Yourself as a Professional”. They asked me to share my perspective as a recent Middlebury grad. As I thought about the lessons I have learned and the best way to share them, I came up with a Top-10 List for Middlebury’s newest group of graduates.
Establishing Yourself as a Working Professional
Yes, the title is a bit of a doozy, but you will want to come to this.
This spring seminar is dedicated to helping Middlebury seniors aka Class of 2010 aka those who don’t have to go through the room draw/housing crisis aka those who will be entering the real world very very soon, understand and deal with transitioning to life after college.
Its goal is very simple: provide the seniors with the critical “financial literacy” tools needed to get professionally established.
Topics that will be covered include, though not limited to:
1. strategies for paying off student loans and other debts
2. leasing vs buying a car
3. managing your credit rating
4.401k and why you will care about it
5. insurance basics
6. international student help
7. tips on how to succeed at the office your first year on the job

Annabelle Fowler is a perfect example of someone who secured a position for next year by taking full advantage of on-campus recruiting. Looking to directly apply her majors, Annabelle searched mainly for jobs in consulting and economic development. After the Interview: How to Write an Effective Interview Thank You Note

Anatomy of a Thank You Note
Keep 3 things in mind when you write your thank you note. It should be immediate, short, and specific.
- Immediate – Get the note written and out the door within 24 hours. Make sure you ask for their contact information during the interview so you’re not scrambling trying to figure out their email or snail mail address.
- Short – This should be a quick expression of gratitude and interest. 3-4 sentences should be fine.
- Specific – Your note should reference something specific you discussed or took away from the interview. You can also reinforce your skill set as a good match for the job requirements.

1. Know the company or organization you’re applying to.
”Talk to as many people as you can. Talk to the Midd alums. Talk to the representatives. If you can, visit a classroom [or the company or organization that you’re applying to] to see what it’s like.
