Summer is ready to hit us in the face, so we have to be prepared!

Summer means:
1. Sunbathing on the beach.
2. Lemonade stands on every corner.
3. Refreshing Sprite commercials.
4. Big, bright polka dots all over dresses, accessories, and tops.
5. BUSINESS

Dear Class of 2010,
It has been a pleasure writing to you all. I hope that this blog, dedicated to helping you with your job search process, senior life, etc., has at least entertained you, if not helped you this year. Now it is time to bid you adieu with your last piece of advice. (Don’t cry! I’ll see you on the booze cruise.)

Dear Class of 2010.5, 2011,
GET YOUR GAME FACE ON! We are starting things a bit early around here because…GUESS WHAT?!…the seniors (yes the CLASS OF 2010) advise you to do so. So, consider this your first bit of advice.

MAKE A BUSINESS CARD FOR YOURSELF!
Don’t miss an opportunity to network this summer. There were so many times in the past when I’d look over at the USC Marshall School of Business student exchanging business cards and becoming chummy with the person I WANTED TO CONNECT TO thinking, “WHERE DO I GET A PEN AROUND HERE?!” When I got the chance to talk to this person, I had to write down my name and information…on a piece of napkin. Great first impression! $25 says that person lost that sad, little piece of napkin because I never heard from him again. (Oh, and business cards are like trading cards…if you don’t give one, there’s a chance that you won’t get one.)

I blamed Middlebury until I saw this: http://www.middlebury.edu/offices/news/communications/identity/stationery

So…it was my fault.
I was not prepared.
DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!

For you “always prepared” folks, check out my previous post on business card etiquette.
