The objective is to expose students interested in all areas of the environment and sustainability to real-world professional experiences that will enable them to apply their liberal arts learning while informing their career exploration and other post-graduate planning.
APPLY BEFORE THE NOVEMBER 5TH DEADLINE–LIMITED SPACE!
The Environment & Sustainability Student Trek experience is open to all sophomores, juniors, and seniors. It will include 10 students competitively selected through the application process described below, with strong preference given to students who receive financial aid as per the request of the donor. Students will travel to San Francisco as a group, departing from Burlington on Sunday, February 2nd, and returning on Saturday, February 8th, accompanied by a CCI advisor. To help ensure that there is no barrier to participation, all travel, lodging, meals, and related expenses will be paid.
This immersive “living and learning” experience will be organized around job-shadowing opportunities with alumni and field visits to organizations with a focus on renewable energy, water/air/land conservation, sustainable agriculture, and climate change mitigation, along with programming at MIIS and the Center for the Blue Economy in Monterey. The experience will also include reflection dinners and career conversations with other select alumni and friends of the College. Program Dates: June 2020 – June 2021

The Global Community Fellowship is a 13-15 month program for graduating seniors and young/ established professionals. Fellows work at NGOs, schools, universities, and social enterprises across Asia to support community development and youth education programs. By working directly with communities, fellows get hands-on experience learning how organizations in Asia are using creative and innovative methods to address critical social challenges.
Who Can Apply? Starting and experienced professionals with a BA or BS degree (must graduate by June 2020). Although the fellowship is primarily aimed towards US citizens, we do accept applications from international residents who have a previous connection to VIA or a substantial US connection.
Fellow Duties
Fellows often engage in a wide range of activities and tasks with our local partners. Although there is often overlap in the kinds of work fellows will do, they can be thought of as two broad categories:
Education-focused — With these partners, you’ll advance student development using critical thinking and cross-cultural communication. Through teaching (English or other subjects depending on the post), you’ll help students to access future education and professional opportunities.
NGO-focused — At these posts, you’ll support community development and international communication efforts by supporting NGOs to access resources, networks, and collaboration opportunities. You may help with fundraising, project management, and community outreach efforts of our local partners.
