Reunion Weekend
This past weekend, instead of going on a hike, visiting Saratoga Springs, or eating a maple Creemee, I worked at Middlebury’s reunion. It was amazing to meet members of the class of 1940, 1990, 1935, 2000 (etc.) and to talk with Middlebury graduates. It was funny to hear how although everyone had different experiences while they were at Middlebury, there were things that remained consistent no matter what year someone graduated.
Conversations between alums and current students ranged from the personal to the political. A couple of older gentlemen discussed how asking out a girl terrified them, and that they wished they would have been bolder. They also recounted their college escapades and talked about Bernie Sander’s campaign for president. Some of the alums hadn’t seen each other in 25 years!
I worked with the class of 1990. It was neat to hear what their college experience was like as well as what they are currently involved in. One of the members of the class reminded me that college would go by quickly and that I should enjoy it while I can. I was also told not to worry about the future and that I should major in something I am passionate about.
Each class had a group of students assigned to it. The group I worked with was wonderful. We worked together really well and had a blast! When we were not helping alums, we drove golf carts, built a human pyramid, discussed various topics, ate some really delicious food, and watched beautiful fireworks. Overall, reunion weekend was wonderful, exhausting, informative, fun, and incredible. I hope that I can help out next year!
