Summer Research at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Applications are open for a 10-week research experience that will allow undergraduates the chance to work alongside experienced faculty mentors and explore pressing aerospace problems at Embry-Riddle.

The Interdisciplinary Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program provides total immersion into all aspects of laboratory work along with other enrichment activities. Students receive a $5,000 stipend, with their housing and meals covered.

During the REU program, students will use our leading-edge laboratories to conduct multidisciplinary research in aerospace engineering, chemistry and applied space biology with a goal of improving future space materials science and human diagnostic technology.

The research will be housed in Embry-Riddle’s College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering, with most of the College of Engineering research done in labs at the MicaPlex, an incubator for innovative new companies and the cornerstone building of the university’s renowned Research Park.

Students live in on-campus air-conditioned housing (double rooms), and receive a meal plan paid by the program. Many programs provide one credit hour of research, travel to and from Columbia (MO), and stipends ranging from $3,400 – $5,400.

Coordinated by the MU Office of Undergraduate Research, the Summer Undergraduate Research Program hosts 50+ students from institutions across the nation. Interns in the program participate in educational and social activities and numerous outings planned by the interns themselves creating a vibrant, inclusive, and welcoming summer community. Under the guidance of an MU faculty mentor, students work on their own projects in collaboration with graduate students, lab technicians, and post-doctoral researchers and will showcase their results at a poster Forum on July 27th.

Applications Open for the Frederick Douglas Global Fellowship (summer program)

During the four-week summer program, 12 fellows will travel to Washington, DC, Cape Town, Dublin, Derry, and Belfast to explore the legacies of Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, John Lewis, Nelson Mandela, Bishop Desmond Tutu, Daniel O’Connell, John Hume, and other giants of social change.  The program runs July 7 – August 4, 2023, with the first week taught virtually and the next three weeks taught on-site. Fellows will study how changemakers shaped pathways to peace, including the Emancipation Proclamation in America, the end of Apartheid in South Africa, and the Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland. Eligibility

  • Be a current undergraduate freshman, sophomore or junior
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.3
  • Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or permanent resident
  • Identify as an ethnicity typically underrepresented on study abroad programs (e.g. American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander).
  • Submit a complete application no later than February 14

Fulbright UK Summer Institute Application Opens Nov 30!

The Fulbright UK Summer Institutes are three to four week programmes for US undergraduate students, who have no or very little travel experience outside North America. Participants can explore the culture, heritage and history of the UK while experiencing higher education at a UK university.

Students will have the opportunity to:

  • Study alongside leading academics and professionals
  • Develop knowledge in specific fields
  • Experience cultural and social events
  • Visit UK cultural sites and areas of scenic beauty
  • Receive credit to transfer to their home institution
  • Meet people from different backgrounds and cultures
  • Become an ambassador for studying in the UK, for the Fulbright Commission and their host institution(s)

The Institute costs covered by the Fulbright Commission and its partner institutions include:

  • Round-trip airfare
  • Tuition and fees at the host institution
  • Accommodation
  • In some cases, a small daily allowance for meals

To be eligible, students must:

  • Be a US citizen and possess a US passport
  • Have had no or very little study/travel experience outside of North America
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.7
  • Be at least 18 years old by the start of the programme
  • Be able to participate in the programme in its entirety
  • Have at least two years of undergraduate study remaining after the Institute finishes

NIDA Summer Research Internship in Addiction Science; Deadline 2/11/22

Calling all undergraduates interested in participating in an addiction science summer internship!  The NIDA Summer Research Internship Program supports all students with a focus on increasing underrepresented populations in substance use and addiction research. Through this program, undergraduates age 18 and older are introduced to the field of substance use and addiction research by participating in research internships with NIDA’s distinguished scientists at universities across the United States. Students work with leading scientists for eight weeks during the summer. The internship may include laboratory experiments, data collection, data analysis, formal courses, participation in lab meetings, patient interviews, manuscript preparation, and literature reviews. In addition, it is expected that each intern will deliver a formal presentation on their research project at the end of the internship.  Our program covers travel and housing along with a salary of $15.00/hour.  For more information, please visit NIDA summer research internship program website. The deadline to apply is February 11, 2022.
