- Outdoor Industry Association – OIA was founded in 1989 by a group of 14 visionary outdoor industry pioneers who created the association to be a unified, collaborative, pre-competitive voice to help guide the industry. Public Interest Technology
Where do you start if you’re a technologist looking to work on public problems? Finding opportunities where you can apply your technology skills to public problems—in governments or nonprofits—is difficult. The field of “Public Interest Technology” is in its infancy, and below are some interesting places where opportunities to get involved in this new sector exist (compliments of the good folks @TechCongress).

- Code for America: Focus on jobs in Public Interest Technology.

- Ragtag and Progressive Coders Network: Progressive technologists, building tech for progressive causes.
- Lincoln Initiative: Community of libertarian professionals working in technology.
- Technology for Social Justice: A participatory action research project intended to find out who works in this space, understand the types of work currently being done with technology for social justice (and more broadly, in the public interest), as well as the pathways people take into this work.
