Consulting Industry Panel Discussion

Consultants are problem solvers, innovators, teachers, lawyers, advisors, designers, artists. Consultants practice these talents and skills in a wide array of disciplines and consulting sectors, including: strategy, economic, public sector, healthcare, non-profit, brand consulting and the list goes on. When it comes to consulting, there is a broad variety of ways to pursue your interests and find outlets for your abilities; very much aligned with a liberal arts education. Hear from a panel of Middlebury alumni with a variety of backgrounds who now have careers across a wide spectrum within the consulting industry. Panelists include:

Economic Consulting Case Study

2 pm in Davis Family Library 105A

Lizzie Faust ’11, Bruce Jia ’16, and Zhiwen Yao ’16 of Analysis Group will focus on an example case study to demonstrate how advanced programming and statistical tools are used in economic consulting to draw insights from big data. If you are excited by coding, data visualization, and problem solving – come with questions.

Public Sector/Non-Profit Consulting Case Study

Julia Deutsch ’13 of Public Works Partners will focus on an example case study to give you a better understanding of the nature of public sector/non-profit consulting, types of clients, their service needs, and whether it may be appropriate for you.  Bring your questions.

 Case Interview Workshop

3 pm in Davis Family Library 105A

Chris Bernene ’90 of Oliver Wyman will focus on what case interviews are about, why they are important to certain consulting firms in their selection process, and how to prepare for them.  This is an important session to attend if you are interested in pursuing consulting opportunities with strategy, management, and select other consultancies.  It will also be a precursor for the Summer Case Buddy Program.

Healthcare Consulting Case Study

3 pm in Davis Family Library 105B

Caroline Brown ’13 of Clearview Healthcare Partners will focus on an example case study to give you a better understanding of the nature of healthcare consulting, types of clients, their service needs, and whether it may be appropriate for you.  This session would be particularly good for science majors to attend.  Bring your questions.

Strategy Consulting Case Study

Daniel Skayne ’15 of Mars & Co will focus on an example case study to give you a better understanding of the nature of strategy consulting, types of clients, their service needs, and whether it may be appropriate for you. Bring your questions.

Brand Consulting Case Study

Ron Cappello P’21 of Infinia Group will focus on an example case study to give you a better understanding of the nature of brand consulting, types of clients, their service needs, and whether it may be appropriate for you.  Bring your questions.

 Social Reception with Alumni

5 pm in Davis Family Library, Harman Periodicals Reading Area

Join classmates and all alumni participating in the program’s activities for informal networking.  This reception is a great way to follow-up on questions you may have for alumni about consulting, exchange contact information, and enjoy light food and beverages.  Representatives from the following firms will be there: Analysis Group, Boston Consulting Group, CaseStudy Consulting, Clearview Healthcare Partners, Deloitte, Infinia Group, Mars & Co., Oliver Wyman, Strategy& (PwC), and The Advisory Board.
