Katie is a rising Junior feb (’16.5) at Middlebury College and plans on double majoring in Environmental Studies and Theatre. While originally from Surrey, England, she now lives in Connecticut. Katie is so excited to be a part of the FoodWorks Program and to learn more about food systems and sustainable farming practices!
Maelenn went to Middlebury this past year as an exchange student from Paris Diderot University in France. With a BA in Geography, she will joining a master’s program in the Fall focused on planning and development. She has always been interested in sustainable living and aspires to integrate it more in her own lifestyle as well as in her career path. Through this internship, she is excited to learn more about the food production and distribution process at a very local scale.
Marissa is a rising Junior from Portland Oregon. She is probably majoring in Environmental Studies with studio art. She decided to do Foodworks in order to learn more about food systems and to expand her farming experience. She’s really excited about working outside everyday and watching things grow.
Hannah Rae (‘14.5) is a farm girl from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (Yoopers unite!) studying Conservation Biology with a Sociology minor. Cooking, agriculture, and rural communities have been her daily reality and biggest passion since she was just tall enough to help her mother can peaches and make bread. She will be working at Lincoln Peak Vineyard this summer where she hopes to learn more about the integration of small businesses into the local culture. The plant nerd in her is also very excited to be working with such an interesting plant as cold climate grapes!
Megan is a junior (Class of 2016) from Ferrisburgh, VT. She is majoring in Environmental Studies and Geography and minoring in German. She is very excited to participate in the FoodWorks program this summer and hopes to learn more about the local food system. She will be working with Treleven Farm and the Parent/Child Center.
Hi Blog Readers! I’m Kyler Blodgett, a rising sophomore from Northern Virginia pursuing an (undeclared) International Politics and Economics major, and I’m so excited to spend my first summer in Vermont. I will be a Shepherd Poverty intern working with the Charter House, Middlebury’s homeless shelter, on their farm and Community Lunch program. The FoodWorks fellows were kind enough to let me live with them and tag along on many of their activities looking at food systems. I can’t think of a better way to spend the summer than deepening my understanding of local food insecurity while learning about how I can be more aware and accepting of the struggling members in my community.

She loves baking, going to farmers markets, growing veggies, and preparing and sharing meals with friends and family. This summer she is working at Lincoln Peak Vineyard, where she is excited to experience both the agricultural and the business side of running a vineyard. My name is Jenna Reichenbach and I’m from Port Washington, New York. I’m graduating this month as a Sociology and Anthropology major, though I’ve yet to spend a summer in Middlebury! I’m passionate about baking and cooking and love being a part of such a lively food culture here in Vermont. My dream is to own a bakery one day, or simply be involved in the food industry in some capacity. I can’t wait to experience a new realm of the industry in my internship with Vermont Farm Tours while the FoodWorks program promises to connect me with greater knowledge of and networks within the Vermont food scene! Gurlyn is a rising sophomore from Kenosha, Wisconsin and will be working as a Weybridge Preservation Intern this summer. He decided to do Foodworks because he wants to learn more about sustainable food and local agriculture in Vermont.
Hello! My name is Erin Reid and I’m a sophomore from the San Francisco Bay Area. I’m a Sociology major with minors in Education Studies and Gender, Sexuality & Feminist Studies, and I love learning about how social systems impact our understandings of what environmentalism and food sustainability are or should be.
