Emily Bogin hails from Marin County, California. She is a rising Junior, and majors in Philosophy. Emily loves food systems and culinary histories, and is looking forward to learning about and archiving the Vermont foodscape this summer.

Lily (2015.5) is an English and Art History double major from Bethesda, Maryland who worked on a goat farm in France this spring and couldn’t imagine spending the summer without a goat or two.  She is incredibly excited to meet and work with members of the local agricultural and food educative communities, to reach a fuller understanding of the word “sustainable” and particularly its application to meat production and consumption, and to spend the season in our beautiful green mountain state.

Eliza is a rising senior feb (‘15.5) pursuing a major in Architecture & the Environment. She grew up in Somerville, MA, a city that has embraced local food, urban farming, and (especially) school gardens with open arms. She is looking forward to a summer of eating fresh food, enjoying good company, and getting plenty of dirt under her fingernails.

Although he hails from Hanover, New Hampshire, Ben betrays his true allegiance when he begins each day with a shot of pure Vermont maple syrup in his coffee. A rising junior and environmental studies major at Middlebury, he will be working with Vermont Community Foundation (VCF) this summer as the inaugural Food and Farm Initiative intern.   Originally hailing from the great state of Texas, Anna graduated this may with a joint degree in Environmental Studies and Sociology/Anthropology. Despite the accusations of cannibalism that it inexplicably inspires, she still feels that the “Love People. Cook them tasty food” bumper sticker on her computer does a pretty good job at summing up her motivation for getting involved with FoodWorks. Ali Surdoval is a rising sophomore from the Garden State working on the college’s organic farm this summer. Having no previous farming experience, she is curious about the journey made by vegetables, from dirt to belly. Ali hopes to be exposed to new ideas and perspectives regarding food (and life) this summer. Her favorite veggie is beets.

Jessica Chen is a rising sophomore from Westchester, New York. She’s majoring in Environmental Economics, and working as a policy intern for the Local Food Association this summer. She’s looking forward to experiencing the music and restaurant scene in Louisvillle!

Sophie Vaughan hails from Oakland, CA, and just finished her first fabulous year at Middlebury College where she hopes to major in Environmental Studies and has become a passionate member of the Socially Responsible Investment Club. Hi my name is Sage Taber and I come from Seattle, Washington. I’m a sophomore at Middlebury College and am majoring in Environmental Studies with a focus in environmental policy. I am so excited for FoodWorks this summer and can’t wait to work with chefs and farmers at Creation Gardens!

Rod is a Senior Sociology/Anthropology major from Bixby, Oklahoma. He realized he was interested in food as more than just a consumer on a service trip this February, where he learned about the importance of sustainable food while staying with an Ecovillage. He is particularly concerned about the social inequalities that arise when people are alienated from the source of their food, so he hopes to learn more about food systems and teach others through with his work as the garden manager at Bellarmine University.  […]
