This is one example of a program that exists. Check it out if curious!
Students who know they want to go to law school but have an interest in exploring other professional, educational, or service opportunities first should consider applying to the Harvard Law School Junior Deferral Program. Through the program, students can apply to HLS as a college junior. If admitted, students must commit to defer their offer of admission for a minimum of two years once they’ve completed their undergraduate degree. They can then use this deferral period to explore their interests and gain hands on work experience before returning to the law school classroom.
Applicants are able to apply to the program free of charge through the HLS Junior Deferral Program website. This will save JDP applicants the cost of registering for the Law School Admission Council’s Credential Assembly Service.
Virtual Information Sessions
The HLS Admissions Office is hosting virtual information sessions for students interested in the Junior Deferral Program. The sessions will take place on March 25, April 29, and May 27. At the sessions, students will learn more about the program, gain insight into the application, and have the opportunity to ask questions about the process. Students can register for the sessions on our Junior Deferral Program website.
