Hertz Fellowship Info Session Aug 17

Are you a STEM student interested in a PhD? The Hertz Fellowship empowers the nation’s most promising doctoral students in science and technology to pursue research that best advances US security and economic vitality. Hertz Fellows receive up to five years of funding offering flexibility from the traditional constraints of graduate training and the independence to innovate. They join an influential network of peers, providing a unique engine for professional development and collaboration. (Eligible applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.)

The 2024 Hertz Fellowship application opens on Monday, August 14, 2023. Hertz is hosting an online information session for prospective applicants on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. eastern. Registration is required to attend.

S. Grady Welsh Selected as a Goldwater Scholar

Congratulations to S. Grady Welsh ’24 who was named a 2023 Goldwater Scholar! The Goldwater Scholarship Program was designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue research careers in the fields of the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics. Grady plans to pursue a PhD in ecology and study interactions between climate change and wetlands. The 413 Scholars this year were selected from 1267 natural science, engineering and mathematics students nominated by 427 academic institutions. Lucia Snyderman ‘23.5 Named Goldwater Scholar

Congratulations to Lucia Snyderman ‘23.5 who was recently selected as a Goldwater Scholar! Lucia was one of 417 students selected from 1,242 college sophomores and juniors nominated for the award by 433 undergraduate institutions. With this scholarship, the Goldwater Foundation seeks to recognize and support college sophomores and juniors who show exceptional promise of becoming the next generation of STEM research leaders in the US. Lucia plans to pursue a PhD in Marine Biology and study bottlenose dolphin communication.

Paid Summer Research Opportunities in STEM at the University of Missouri! Deadlines 2/11-3/1/22.

The University of Missouri has more than 60 slots in our AWESOME summer program for visiting students!  

In addition to providing a full time research experience and end-of-the-summer poster session, we organize evening seminars, specialty small group seminars, and orientation and social activities designed to create a supportive peer community.  Many of our seminars focus on professional development, tailored to different levels of student experience.  We provide students and faculty the tools they need to quickly establish a productive mentoring relationship.  And Columbia, Missouri is a great place to get away from distractions for the summer, and focus on research and professional development at a major research university — Big Time research with the Small Town touch!

Stipends range from $3400-$6000 and on-campus room & board.

Program Dates:  May 31- July 30, 2022 (We can not accommodate late arrivals)

Medical Research – outreach for students interested attending MU School of Medicine

February 20

Alcohol Research – psychology addiction research

Translational Biomedicine – students planning on research careers and looking at MU for graduate training

Cell & Molecular Biology – for students interested in molecular and cellular biology and looking at MU for graduate training

Cancer Research – students planning on careers in cancer research, diagnosis, or treatment and considering MU for graduate/professional studies

Materials Science & Engineering REU – broad array of materials engineering research

Animal Sciences – for students considering PhDs in animal sciences.  This is not a pre-vet program.
