You might ask yourself, “Why would I ever need training in dinner etiquette?”
Great Question!
Every year, a few departments on campus get together to invite a professional dining expert to host a 4-course meal and workshop on dining etiquette for Middlebury students. This isn’t just about learning the finer points of dining etiquette, it is also about how to conduct yourself if you are invited to a job or internship interview that serves lunch, or if you are attending a formal alumni event where you will be mingling over hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. For some students, these situations can be uncomfortable and we have found it is helpful to have a few tips in your back pocket to ease anxiety. Think of etiquette as tool to allow you to relax and enjoy your meal without worrying about which fork to use or distracting people away from their conversation or interview.
You will cover such topics as:
- What To Know Before You Go
- Nametags: Where They Go and Why
- Handshakes
- Introductions
- Body Language
- Casual Conversation
