Apply to Be a Samvid Scholar to Drive Societal Change – Open Feb. 10, 2025 

The goal of this merit-based graduate scholarship program is to empower mission-driven graduate students with exceptional track records of impact to drive transformative change for society through leadership development, community, and financial support. Applications open on Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, and close on Apr. 14, 2025, at 3:00 pm ET. 

Recipients are funded for the first two years of a graduate program (up to $50,000 a year for two years) — and join a diverse community of social impact leaders. Scholars receive two years of leadership development programming, gain valuable leadership skills and an opportunity to collaborate with individuals across degree programs. Following the two years, scholars remain active in our community as alumni Scholars. 

Eligible candidates will:   

  • Pursue a full-time graduate program of 2 years or longer at a university in the United States, in one of the following eligible programs: MD, MBA, JD, MPP/MPA, MPH, or MS/MA in the social sciences or STEM 
  • Be a first-year graduate student for the 2025-2026 academic year    
  • Have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.5    
  • Be a U.S. citizen or DACA recipient

FAO Schwarz Fellowship in Social Impact, Applications Open Nov 1

The FAO Schwarz Fellowship in social impact provides graduating seniors interested in careers in social change opportunities to develop their leadership potential and professional skills.

Fellowship positions are paid, two-year experiences working at leading nonprofit organizations in Boston, New York City, and Philadelphia both in direct service roles and in leading key program initiatives.

In addition to salary and benefits, Fellowships include professional development, retreats, mentoring, and cohort experiences. Six or seven new Fellowship positions are typically available each year.

Hosts are announced in early fall. Applications for the next cohort open November 1 and are due February 1. The Fellowship offers info sessions online throughout the year for interested candidates; see faoschwarzfellowship.org for more information!

FAO Schwarz Fellowship for Social Impact

The Museum of the City of New York (New York City), Audubon MId-AtlanticThe Clay Studio, and The Food Trust (all in Philadelphia), and 826 Boston (Boston) will each host one new Fellow. Reading Partners (New York City) will host two Fellows. The FAO Schwarz Fellowship is one of a small number of paid * domestic opportunities for students interested in social impact careers. The FAO Schwarz Fellowship is incredibly proud to be working with these amazing organizations and will be announcing details about the positions on November 1. Applications Open for the Frederick Douglas Global Fellowship (summer program)

During the four-week summer program, 12 fellows will travel to Washington, DC, Cape Town, Dublin, Derry, and Belfast to explore the legacies of Frederick Douglass, Abraham Lincoln, John Lewis, Nelson Mandela, Bishop Desmond Tutu, Daniel O’Connell, John Hume, and other giants of social change.  The program runs July 7 – August 4, 2023, with the first week taught virtually and the next three weeks taught on-site. Fellows will study how changemakers shaped pathways to peace, including the Emancipation Proclamation in America, the end of Apartheid in South Africa, and the Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland. Eligibility

  • Be a current undergraduate freshman, sophomore or junior
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.3
  • Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or permanent resident
  • Identify as an ethnicity typically underrepresented on study abroad programs (e.g. American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander).
  • Submit a complete application no later than February 14

The Fellowship program provides opportunities for new college graduates interested in social impact careers to be part of organizations that are deeply committed to social justice and equity. Through a combination of direct service and leadership challenges, professional development and mentoring, Fellows gain first-hand experience leading change and learn how effective nonprofits create lasting and measurable progress. Host organizations this year include The Barnes Foundation (Philadelphia), the Museum of Science (Boston), and the Whitney Museum (New York), Jumpstart and Year Up (New York and Boston).
