Congratulations to S. Grady Welsh ’24 who was named a 2023 Goldwater Scholar! The Goldwater Scholarship Program was designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue research careers in the fields of the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics. Grady plans to pursue a PhD in ecology and study interactions between climate change and wetlands. The 413 Scholars this year were selected from 1267 natural science, engineering and mathematics students nominated by 427 academic institutions. Lucia Snyderman ‘23.5 Named Goldwater Scholar
Congratulations to Lucia Snyderman ‘23.5 who was recently selected as a Goldwater Scholar! Lucia was one of 417 students selected from 1,242 college sophomores and juniors nominated for the award by 433 undergraduate institutions. With this scholarship, the Goldwater Foundation seeks to recognize and support college sophomores and juniors who show exceptional promise of becoming the next generation of STEM research leaders in the US. Lucia plans to pursue a PhD in Marine Biology and study bottlenose dolphin communication.

Stephanie Jordan ’20 and Teal Witter ’20 Named Goldwater Scholars
Congratulations to Middlebury’s newest Goldwater Scholars, Stephanie Jordan and Teal Witter! Stephanie and Teal were selected from a national pool of 1223 natural science, engineering and mathematics students nominated by 443 colleges and universities. The Barry Goldwater Scholarship provides scholarships up to $7,500 to support undergraduates pursuing careers in math, natural sciences, and engineering. Beinecke: Current junior studying humanities, arts, social sciences; US citizen receiving financial aid
Goldwater: Current sophomore or junior planning a research career in science; US citizens
St. Andrews: Seniors interested in post-graduate study in Scotland who receive financial aid; US Citizen
Truman: Current junior interested in public affairs or public service; US citizen
Each has specific eligibility requirements (citizenship, GPA, financial aid, professional/educational plans) so read carefully!
