Job Description-INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY IN ARCHITECTURAL ANALYSIS

Credit-eligible internship for two students, Winter Term 2019

Marble Fairbanks Architects, New York City, has been engaged by Middlebury for a project at the Davis Family Library. The firm offers a Winter-Term internship for a team of two students to assist in some data gathering and preliminary analysis. The four-week internship may include a visit to the firm, in Brooklyn, New York.

Students will assist the project team in: documenting the existing building; developing surveys for building users including students, faculty, administration, community members and alumni; research on contemporary library design and precedents; developing programming studies for the library; and planning workshops for engaging the campus community. Time in the office in New York City will include project team meetings and workshops with firm partners and team leaders, along with visits to recently completed projects and construction sites.

The internship is open to Middlebury students who have taken HARC 0130—Introduction to Architectural Design. The students should be prepared to work independently and have good organizational skills. While the interns will work directly with the library staff and the architects, the internship will get academic oversight from Pieter Broucke, the Program Director of Architectural Studies.
