Charter House Coalition is seeking Middlebury College students interested in volunteering for part time summer internships in our Farm-To-Table and Community Meal Programs in return for living at Charter House for free.  Interns may volunteer for any three week or longer period between May 20 and September 8.  The interns will work closely with our Farm-To-Table leadership team and two interns who are part of the Privilege and Poverty Internship Program.  Through this volunteer internship students will gain direct experience in: (1) how a volunteer non-profit provides essential support for those living in poverty; (2) vegetable farming and processing; (3) staffing and managing emergency meal programs for food insecure individuals and families; (4) the management of a volunteer non-profit organization.

The internships can be tailored to fit 10 – 40 hours of volunteering per week.  The intern will be provided free housing at Charter House and will have access to produce from the gardens and the kitchen at Charter House.  The primary work locations are Charter House at 27 North Pleasant Street and our community garden on the grounds of Porter Hospital.

Charter House Coalition has provided volunteer internships for over 50 Middlebury College students over the past 9 years.  The summer internships are successful because the work opportunity is meaningful and students enjoy sharing their summer with other students while living at Charter House.

The primary prerequisites are that the intern be passionate about poverty alleviation and have a strong interest in working with our farm and food programs.

Interns will be required to provide a $100 deposit returnable at the end of the internship assuming the work commitment is kept and there is no damage to the facility.

Interested students should contact Samantha Kachmar.
