During the spring break, two noteworthy artists passed away: the feminist, lesbian poet Adrienne Rich and the bluegrass banjo player, Earl Scruggs. Both of their lives and work can be enjoyed in Middlebury College’s library collections.

As for Adrienne Rich, the library has over 50 books by, or about the poet. Start with The Diamond Cutters and Other Poems published in 1955, followed by Diving into the wreck from 1973 and which earned her a National Book Award. Then Adrienne Rich’s poetry and prose : poems, prose, reviews, and criticism, from 1993.

As for Earl Scruggs, ask at the front circulation desk at the Davis Family Library for CD 6489, The Essential Flatt & Scruggs or CD 3454, Flatt & Scruggs, 1948-1959, a four volume set featuring Lester Flat, Earl Scruggs, and the Foggy Mountain Boys.

Of course, you can listen to Earl Scruggs online too.
