The Spanish School In Its Second Century
La Escuela Española comienza la primera sesión en su segundo siglo después de un verano de celebraciones de su centenario. Este nuevo siglo se abre con un nuevo nombre. Para poner el énfasis en el elemento común de las muchas culturas y los muchos países que abarcan los programas de la Escuela, que es la lengua, de ahora en adelante nuestro nombre oficial será el de Escuela de Español.
Lo que no ha cambiado es la calidad del programa de estudios y las estupendas instalaciones en que se desarrollan esas y otras actividades. En el campus de Middlebury contamos con la biblioteca Davis, que posee una muy completa colección de material de imprenta y electrónico para satisfacer las necesidades de estudiantes de cualquier nivel. A ella se puede añadir un catálogo igualmente completo de películas en DVD de España y la América Hispana. Para poder aprovechar al máximo dichos recursos, una bibliotecaria hispanohablante, graduada de la Escuela, imparte un cursillo de orientación a la investigación bibliográfica a estudiantes en su primer verano.
Este verano, como todos los veranos desde 1917, la oferta de cursos y de actividades co-curriculares es impresionante: conferencias, conciertos, obras de teatro, bailes, deportes, programas de radio, producción de videos, etc. Todo ello brinda innumerables oportunidades a los participantes de vivir la lengua en todas sus facetas lingüísticas y culturales. ¡Los esperamos!

The Spanish School is entering its second century after a summer filled with celebrations of its centennial. This new century begins with a new official name. To emphasize that the School encompasses all aspects of the several cultures that grow and thrive in many countries using one common language, we will be known henceforth by the name of that language, the School of Spanish.
What has not changed is the quality of the program and of the facilities in which it takes place. In the Middlebury campus we are fortunate in having the Davis Library to serve the needs of all our students. The library has one of the most complete collections of print and electronic materials that students at any level might need, including a very substantial collection of Spanish and Latin American films. A Spanish-speaking librarian will introduce first-year graduate students to all the tools necessary for research.
The 2018 summer, like all summers since 1917, will have splendid academic offerings and a varied schedule of co-curricular activities–lectures, concerts, theater, dances, sports, radio programs, videos-making, etc., which create innumerable opportunities for the participants to immerse themselves in the language and its cultural manifestations.
