Beginning with the Keys to Lolita, there has been an interest in providing insight and commentary to the novels of Vladimir Nabokov. This collective project of a class on Nabokov taught at Middlebury College is both process and product as students delved deeper into the master’s mind.

Be aware that reading the notes before the novel might spoil that first fresh discovery of the fragrance reserved for the first time reader and reading!

Long before the internet and hyperlinking, reading Nabokov required an excellent memory, a good dictionary and access to a good reference library.  The Internet makes some things faster and more accessible. One example is the electronic text of the novel that can be searched at ethernet or wireless speed.
