Internships for the Summer? All is not lost

Now that it’s April and spring is in full force, we can all smell the jubilee of fun that is summer and almost taste the good times. And although Spring Break in Cancun might have gotten you a tubular sunburn or a championship title in the hotel’s belly flop competition, you may still be scratching the ol’ noggin when it comes what you will be doing this summer. Even though you know an internship would be a great way to add some juice to that resume, you might have already gotten used to the fact that kickin’ it by the pool telling little Petey not to throw Chaco-Taco’s at his sister may not be so bad. Well, that might be fine and delectable but I am here to tell you that ALL IS NOT LOST! We are still cookin’ over here at the CSO Lab and there plenty of opportunities for you to land a spicy internship that will add some nice chipotle to your resume.

If you haven’t heard of LACN or MOJO then now is the time to get on your horse and giddy up to finding some jobs. MOJO stands for Middlebury Only Job Opportunities which has job/internship listings for Middlebury students like you and me. LACN is the Liberal Arts Career Network that lists job/internship posting to 30 liberal arts colleges such as our beloved Middlebury. On LACN, there are currently 3537 internship listings to be gobbled up by students. MOJO has 70 Midd-friendly internships waiting to be caught and more are pouring in each day. Of those Midd-friendly internships, you may want to scope out the New Millennium Fund PAID internships. There are currently 6 internships being offered from organizations located in Vermont, Washington DC and San Francisco. You have Vermont Wetland Plant Supply in Orwell, VT, Choose Responsibility in the fabulous Washington, DC, Fresh Tracks in Shelburne, VT, Encore Redevelopment in Burlington, VT, Brighter Planet in San Francisco, and American Retroworks here in our savory Middlebury, VT.  These organizations work in a unique partnership with the College to provide financial support for Middlebury students who would like to gain practical work experience in a start-up or small company, a venture capital firm, or an innovative not-for-profit. You also may want to check some of my other tasteful blog posts on Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility, there are some treats to be found and some great opportunities.

You may still not believe me and you may think that there is no hope for you but let me verbally and safely shake the jeepers out of you because, ladies and gentlemen, I am no sandbagger. Just the other day, one of my friends, Ryan, better known by his online RPG name The Machine, just landed an interview with a finance company in the Big Apple. So it is not too late! But don’t wait around until it is! 😀 Get on MOJO and LACN and get moving. If you have any questions, want to discuss resumes/cover letters, or any other thing else relating to internships, stop by the CSO! Drop-ins are from 2-5 PM every Monday-Friday.
