Social Media

Bernie Sanders’ social media usage creates his image of an angry old man who cares about making the United States more accessible to everyone.  Sanders’ Twitter uses very powerful language; his tweets are often pointing out flaws in the current system and why it’s necessary for him to run for president. He explains why he is running for president in a recent tweet; “I’m not running for president to pursue reckless adventures abroad, but to rebuild America’s strength at home.” The campaign Instagram also focuses on these big issues, and proposing solutions to the inequalities in America. The Instagram often has long captions on his photos—telling stories about supporters or talking about the issues. Sanders also expanded to a Snapchat recently. The campaign also does not shy away from portraying Sanders as an old curmudgeon—the caption on Instagram when he announced the Snapchat was “What is this Snapshot thing and why do I only get ten seconds?” Sanders’ social media uses forceful language to convey his political platforms, and makes the candidate seem accessible.
