The MAP Peer Mentor Program Blog has moved, you can now find us at

The Recruitment Office is running a phonathon to call prospective students  this coming Tuesday April 21st and we need your help!

A pizza dinner and refreshments will be provided for all volunteers.  PLUS you  will receive either a Jamba Juice gift card or a Pete’s Coffee gift card for  every hour that you volunteer.

Here’s the Deal:

We need current students to call applicants to chat with them about the  Monterey Institute and help answer any questions that they may have.  This  will be a great way to share your experiences and learn about the students who  are applying to the Monterey Institute.

Where: The Recruitment Suite (443 Casa Fuente)

When: Tuesday April 21st.  Volunteer for one or more of 5 shifts:  3-4pm, 4-
5pm, 5-6pm, 6-7pm or 7-8pm

If you are interested in helping, please contact Devin Lueddeke as soon as  possible by emailing him at devin.lueddeke@miis.edu  or by calling 831-647-6543.

Thank you for your help!      -Devin

Warm regards,

The Recruiting Office would like your participation in expanding awareness about the Monterey Institute and reaching out to prospective students in other parts of the country and throughout the world by hosting a Coffee Chat.

Who can help? Continuing students and new graduates who plan to travel or return home during the winter break. The Coffee Chats may take place from January 6 until the beginning of the spring term.

How can you help? We are looking for students who would like to meet and host a small group of prospective students (usually 3-8) at a coffee shop or similar establishment and share their experiences about what it is like to be a student here at the Monterey Institute. We are calling these meetings “Coffee Chats.” Arrangements will be made by and expenses covered by the Recruiting Department.

Why is this important? Prospective students exploring graduate schools want to heave directly from current students; who better to help them understand the Monterey Institute experience than you!? This is any informal and meaningful way to increase the visibility of the Monterey Institute, show your school pride and encourage another person to make the same decision you did!

Have these been successful in the past? Those who have hosted the chats have report that they had a great time and the prospective students had good questions. The hosts have felt that the chat was worthwhile and they would like to host again.

Please indicate your interest in learning more by emailing Alice.villemaire@miis.edu. Alice will send you specific details and answer any questions you have.

The MAP Peer Mentor Program warmly congratulates all Fall 2008 Graduates and wishes you best of luck and success in the future!

Unfortunately, due to the low number of Yes RSVPS for the MAP Program Game Night that is scheduled  for tomorrow, Friday, December 5th, I have decided to cancel and postpone this event until next semester.  Thank you for your understanding and  to everyone who RSVPed!

Also, I wanted to mention that even though the December 1st deadline for applying to be a MAP peer mentor for Spring 2009 has passed, I will still be taking mentor applications until early January. If you are interested in being a mentor for Spring 2009, please apply online at http://www.miis.edu/saffairs_map_mentor.html.

As a reminder, please remember to contact your mentor/mentee one more time before the holidays. Sometime after finals I will also be sending out an evaluation link via email to get  your feedback on the Fall 2008 MAP Peer Mentor Program.

Last but not least, there is now a MAP Peer Mentor Program Linked In group at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=1370867. Please join it if you are on “Linked In” in order to network with other MAP Program Participants. :)

Thanks again everyone and good luck on your finals! Gail :)

Our Spring 2009 MAP Program is just around the corner and in the interest of getting the word out about our program, I was wondering if any of you would be interested in volunteering a hour or two of your time in the next few weeks to help film a short YouTube video about the MAP Peer Mentoring Program. The video will be used for promoting our program to current and prospective students.

The video will be an opportunity to do something fun and interactive to help attract future volunteers. We could do a commercial blurb, a Q& A interview, a fun skit, or whatever the volunteers have in mind.

If you are interested in volunteering for creating this video, please let me know ASAP and we can start working on it.

Also, in November I am planning on putting up flyers as well as sending campus wide emails to recruit volunteers for Spring 2009. I will also be recruiting volunteers in other ways as well.

If you have any ideas of how we could promote the MAP Peer Mentoring Program and recruit more volunteers and/or if you would like to volunteer to help recruit in November, please let me know.

Thanks everyone and looking forward to hearing from you!

Gail :)

For our upcoming Movie Night on November 6th, we need some suggestions for movies to watch.

Looking forward to your movie nominations! –Gail :)
