Upcoming Fellowship Deadlines: UK, Ireland, Fulbright, Watson

Reminders: if you intend to apply for nomination for the Churchill, Marshall, Mitchell, Rhodes or St. Andrews, you must do so by April 7. See go.middlebury.edu/british for instructions. You must apply by this deadline to be eligible for nomination.

Those interested in the Watson and Fulbright grants should submit a preliminary application by April 15. See go.middlebury.edu/watson and go.middlebury.edu/fulbright for more information. Recent alumni interested in the Fulbright are also strongly encouraged to apply through Middlebury. Internal deadlines for these process will be set later (late summer/early fall).

Evelin Toth ’17 Selected as a Watson Fellow

Congratulations to Evelin Toth ’17, recently named one of 40 new Watson Fellows! With the support of the fellowship, Evelin will explore how island communities around the world are adapting to climate change. Her project, titled “Adapting to the Rising Seas: Climate Change and Island Communities,” will take her to Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Taiwan, Samoa, Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands. Who knew there was a radio show in Brooklyn focused on cheese?  It’s a great listen and you can learn a lot about cheese in different cultural traditions as well as glean more about what a Watson year is like.

Watson Webinar on 9/9 and Internal Deadline on 9/13

For those applying for Watson, nomination, the Watson Foundation is running a webinar on Friday, Sept. 9 from 3pm-4pm EST. You can get more info and register through this link. Below the video there is a sign up for the Watson Informational Webinar.

Reminder: the internal deadline for nomination applications is Tuesday, Sept. 13 at noon. No late applications will be accepted. Please see go.middlebury.edu/watson for materials needed and the nomination process. (No, you do not have to have submitted a preliminary application back in April or over the summer to apply–just submit the requested application materials by the internal deadline to be considered. Yes, I will endeavor to read and respond to drafts I receive next week.)
