April 15 Deadline for Fellowships and Senior Work Funding

April 15 is an important deadline for the following:

  • Senior Work Funding: SRPS/Hoskins applications for rising seniors/super-seniors planning to conduct research over the summer. Others can likely wait until the Oct. 1 deadline. See go/srps .
  • Nomination applications for British and Irish Scholarships (Marshall, Mitchell, Rhodes, Churchill). You must apply by April 15 to be considered for nomination! Applications open to rising seniors and young alumni. See go/fellowships .
  • Preliminary applications for Fulbright and Watson scholarships. Open to rising seniors and alumni (Fulbright only). See go/fellowships .

For these internal fellowship applications, you do not have to have everything thought out; you may not have entirely settled on a particular topic or country. That is fine–the preliminary application just forces you to get started. It is helpful if you’re applying for nomination for a British or Irish scholarship to be as precise as you can regarding your choice of programs and why this program makes sense for your trajectory.

CLS Deadline Coming Up!

This is a reminder that the deadline for the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) program, a program of the U.S. Department of State, is November 23rd, 2015 at 7:59pm EST. Now is the time to be working on your application and essays so that you can submit a strong application!  For more information, see http://clscholarship.org/ . From CLS: We here at the CLS Program are excited to host a general CLS webinar for students and faculty on Friday, October 16th, at 4pm EST. The webinar will explain the goals of the program to potential applicants, talk through the benefits of participating on the program, and offer tips on the CLS Application. Fulbright and Watson Internal Deadlines Fast Approaching!

Applications for Watson nomination are due Thursday, Sept. 17 at noon! See application instructions at go/watson for required materials and format. Selected applicants will be interviewed in late September, exact dates and times TBA.

Fulbright applications are due by end of day on Wednesday, September 23. This must be a complete and polished application, meaning letters of recommendation, affiliation letter (if appropriate), transcripts, language evaluations are also submitted by that date. We have ordered Middlebury transcripts for those applicants we knew about on Sept. 9. We will send you a pdf of your transcript to upload by Sept. 21. You are responsible for uploading transcripts and affiliation letters (if required). You will be able to see whether your recommendations have been submitted or not, but will not be able to see the letters themselves. At some point on September 23, you must click the SUBMIT button on the application. This moves your application from the applicant space to the institutional space, allowing fellowships staff to see your materials. These will be shared with faculty interviewers. You will then select a time for a brief campus interview (we will notify you when that is ready!). The fellowships office will submit your application to Fulbright by their Oct 13 deadline. Middlebury Top Producer of Fulbrights!

A shout out to all those excellent Fulbright applicants who helped make Middlebury a top producer of Fulbrighters for 2014-15! We have 12 grantees this year, pursuing research or teaching English all over the globe–Columbia, Germany, Spain, Russia, Brazil, China, Jordan, India, Poland and Ecuador. Rising seniors and young alumni, now is an excellent time to be thinking about a Fulbright application! Preliminary applications are due April 15; our final on-campus deadline will be in September.
