The NIDA Summer Research Internship Program supports all students with a focus on increasing underrepresented populations in drug abuse research. Through this program, undergraduates aged 18 and older are introduced to the field of substance use and addiction research by participating in research internships with NIDA’s distinguished scientists at universities across the United States. Students work with leading scientists for eight weeks during the summer. The internship may include laboratory experiments, data collection, data analysis, formal courses, participation in lab meetings, patient interviews, manuscript preparation, and literature reviews. In addition, it is expected that each intern will deliver a formal presentation on their research project at the end of the internship.
Eligibility:
This NIDA Summer Research Internship Program is designed for undergraduate students to experience substance use and addiction research in the biomedical, behavioral, clinical, and social sciences. Applicants must be at least 18 years old on or before May 31, 2024, and must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
Graduating 2024 college seniors are eligible to apply.
Students must be committed to working for 8 consecutive weeks during the summer (some schedule flexibilities may be allowed).
Individuals who have already participated in the NIDA Summer Research Internship Program are no longer eligible to apply.
NIDA highly encourages those from diverse backgrounds, including those from underrepresented groups, to apply for this summer research experience (see NIH’s Interest in Diversity).
Scope of Support:
Interns will receive a wage of $15.00 per hour for a maximum of $4,800 for eight (8) weeks.
Internship experiences are in-person.
Interns may receive a housing reimbursement for up to $2,500 (upon sending NIDA proper documentation of these expenses) if they are required to travel to a different state for their internship. After accepting an internship position, the intern will be required to cover any additional costs for housing and other expenses accrued including but not limited to utilities, cable, Wi-Fi, and meals. NIDA understands that some locations have a higher cost of living and additional housing support will be considered with proper documentation on a case-by-case basis.
Interns may also receive a travel reimbursement for up to $500 for travel to and from the internship site, including but not limited to bus, train, metro, airplane, uber, taxi, and parking.

Van Andel Institute is now accepting applications for the 2024 Summer Internship Program for undergraduate students. Applicants are required to submit a complete online application as well as combine their cover letter, resume and official transcript as a single electronic pdf file to upload with the online application. To be eligible, applicants must also have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and be currently enrolled in an undergraduate science-related degree program. Applicants that are either currently enrolled in high school (or dually enrolled in high school and college), have graduated with Bachelor’s degree before the internship start date or are currently enrolled in Master’s, DO, PhD or MD program are ineligible. We also require two letters of recommendations be submitted by your recommenders to undergrad@vai.edu. Applicants are NOT to submit their own letters of recommendation.

he 2024-2025 application for the Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF) is now available online. Application final submission is due January 17, 2024.
The DOE CSGF provides financial support for students pursuing doctoral degrees in fields that use high-performance computing to solve complex problems in science and engineering (science and engineering track). The program also funds doctoral candidates in applied mathematics, statistics or computer science who are pursuing research that will contribute to more effective use of emerging high-performance systems (mathematics and computer science track).

Geriatric Psychiatry Department at McLean Hospital is seeking student visitors for three research labs: The Technology and Aging Lab, The Geriatric Psychiatry Research Program, and the Mood and Cognition in the Aging Lab.
This internship is geared towards students who are actively enrolled in an undergraduate programand are interested in gaining clinical and research experience. Student Visitors are primarily responsible for assisting with lab related procedures that include but are not limited to data entry, patient escort, transcription, and literature review compositions.
Internship Lab Placement Options:
The Technology and Aging Lab, directed by Dr. Ipsit Vahia, investigates the applications of technological interventions to enhance clinical care across the lifespan. Current research focuses on the application of electronic media into psychotherapy, wearables to track symptom changes from medication adjustments in patients with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) and Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), applications of virtual reality to enhance mindfulness in older adults with mood disorders, AI-based phenotyping for mood disorders and monitoring of medication side effects for patients involved in clinical trials for ADRD/MCI, and augmented reality to supplement activities of daily living (ADLs) for patients with ADRD/MCI.
The Geriatric Psychiatry Research Program, directed by Dr. Ipsit Vahia, addresses cutting edge research questions in the areas of dementia and mood disorders using new neuroimaging techniques, clinicopathological correlations, and other study methods. Current studies include a number of Industry-Sponsored Alzheimer’s Disease clinical drug trials, longitudinal analyses of older adults with depression and bipolar disorder, and Investigator-Initiated clinical trials focused on treatment interventions for behavioral symptoms associated with Alzheimer’s disease, and neuroimaging studies.
The Mood and Cognition in the Aging Lab, directed by Dr. Sara Weisenbach, investigates how problems such as cognitive dysfunction and depression symptomatology relate to the ability to regulate emotions during late middle and older age. Participants take part in an interview to gather information about medical and psychiatric history, a physical exam and blood draw, cognitive testing, a functional MRI scan, and questionnaires. Some parts of this study can be performed virtually, and we are enrolling patients at Stony Brook University who are unable to attend in-person visits at this time due to the pandemic. The overall aim of this study is to use the knowledge that we gain from this study to develop better interventions for emotion dysregulation and depression in older people. We are enrolling participants with and without a history of depression.
