Three Middlebury Alumni Named Schwarzman Scholars!

Congratulations to Middlebury alumni Darren Chen, Amani Core and Christina Wiremu-Brook who were selected as Schwarzman Scholars! You can read more about them in the newsroom: https://www.middlebury.edu/newsroom/archive/2022-news/node/662029 .

The 151 Schwarzman Scholars in the Class of 2023 hail from 33 countries and 106 universities. Scholars pursue a one-year Master’s degree in Global Affairs with a core curriculum focused on leadership, China, and global affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Scholars chosen for this highly selective program have demonstrated exemplary leadership qualities and the potential to understand and bridge cultural and political differences. Schwarzman Scholars live in Beijing for a year of intensive study and cultural immersion –attending lectures, workshops, and discussion groups; being mentored and advised by leaders across sectors; and traveling while developing a better understanding of China. Middlebury’s Schwarzman Scholars!

Congratulations to Middlebury’s newest Schwarzman Scholars, Abdijabar Mohamed ‘18.5 and Elsa Alvarado ’18! Elsa and Abdi will join the class of 2020 at Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China in August. This year, 147 scholars were selected from over 2,800 applicants. This fourth class of Schwarzman scholars comes from 38
countries and 119 universities, with 40% originating from the United States, 20% from China, and 40% from the rest of the world.

Join Christian Tanja from the Schwarzman Scholars Program to learn about this post-graduate fellowship to China. Open to international and US students, the language of instruction is English. The Schwarzman scholarship, inspired by the Rhodes scholarship, is a program designed to help future leaders meet the challenges of the 21st century and beyond by preparing them to better understand China’s culture, economy, governance, and motivations. Scholars will study for a one-year Masters’ degree in public policy, international relations, or economics and business at Tsinghua University—fully funded. Two Alumni Receive Schwarzman Scholarships for Study in China

Juan Sebastián Muñoz Rivera ’13 (Middlebury College) and Fangdi Pan ’15  (Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey) were recently named Schwarzman Scholars! Selected from over 4,000 applicants, this cohort of 142 Schwarzman scholars comes from 39 countries and 97 universities, with 41% from the United States, 20% from China, and 39% from the rest of the world. Juan Sebastián and Fangdi will enroll at Schwarzman College on the Tsinghua University campus in Beijing in August 2018. The Schwarzman Scholars program was inspired by the Rhodes Scholarship and is designed to meet the challenges of the 21st century and beyond.
