Brazil ETA Program 2017-18 Expansion- Special Application for Grants to Begin Feb 2018!

Open Competition for New Fulbright ETA Awards in Brazil – February 2018!!

Special application open May 2, 2017- July 14, 2017 

 With funding from the Brazilian government, the Fulbright Brazil ETA Program is expanded for the Program Year 2017-18 with 76 additional grants to be offered.   A special open application period will be held from May 2 to July 14, 2017.  The deadline is Friday, July 14 at 5:00 pm Eastern Time.   

To be eligible, applicants must be a U.S. citizen and hold a bachelor’s degree by July 14, 2017.  Additional requirements/preferences for this program include:

  • Must available for the full grant term: mid-February to November, 2018.
  • Cannot be residing in Brazil for more than three months in the 12 months prior to the grant start. Exception can be made for language immersion program enrollment.
  • Proficiency in a Romance language at the intermediate level (equivalent to 2-years college level study) is required at the time of application.
  • Experience working in an educational environment, specifically with classroom teaching or leadership is strongly preferred.. 

Persons who applied for a Fulbright U.S. Student Program in the fall 2017 but did not receive a grant offer for 2017-18 are also eligible to apply for this opportunity.  In this case, candidates will create a new application account in Embark with a different email address and complete the full application—respond to all questions, revise and upload new essays, request new Reference Forms (2 are required for this competition), request a Foreign Language Evaluation in one of the required languages, and upload the most recent transcript(s) of all degree level course work.  However, the Campus Committee Interview/Evaluation will not apply.

Tucker Van Aken ’12 will discuss his experiences as a Fulbrighter in China. Dean Lisa Gates will be on hand to answer questions about the Fulbright or application process. This session is for students interested in learning more about the Fulbright and possibly applying in the fall. Graduating seniors and recent alumni can apply. Learn more at go/fulbright

Reminders: if you intend to apply for nomination for the Churchill, Marshall, Mitchell, Rhodes or St. Andrews, you must do so by April 7. See go.middlebury.edu/british for instructions. You must apply by this deadline to be eligible for nomination.

Those interested in the Watson and Fulbright grants should submit a preliminary application by April 15. See go.middlebury.edu/watson and go.middlebury.edu/fulbright for more information. Recent alumni interested in the Fulbright are also strongly encouraged to apply through Middlebury. Internal deadlines for these process will be set later (late summer/early fall).

Info Sessions Coming Soon for Watson, Fulbright, British and Schwarzman Scholarships

The fellowships office will host information sessions in the spring semester for students interested in learning more and applying to the Watson, Fulbright, British, and Schwarzman Scholarships. Look here for dates and times shortly. A few notes:

  1. Students interested in applying for Rhodes, Marshall, Churchill or Mitchell Scholarship nomination MUST submit an internal application by April 7. See our website  for more info.
  2. Students interested in applying for the Fulbright and Watson fellowships are STRONGLY encouraged to submit a preliminary application for these by April 15. This does not commit you to applying, but will help you get started in a timely way.

Students are not eligible to apply in the fall 2018 application cycle are still encouraged to attend the info sessions and learn more!
