Monique Santoso ’21 Selected as Knight- Hennessy Scholar

Congratulations to Monique Santoso ’21 who was named a Knight Hennessy Scholar at Stanford University. Monique is one of 90 new scholars from 30 countries who will pursue degrees in 45 graduate programs at Stanford. She is pursuing a PhD in communication at Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences. Monique is the third Knight-Hennessy Scholar from Middlebury College.

Monique came to Middlebury from from Purwakarta, Indonesia as a Davis Scholar. She majored in environmental studies–conservation psychology with a minor in global health. Through her graduate work Monique aspires to use immersive technologies to foster empathy, sustainability-related decision-making, and civic engagement.

Knight-Hennessy Scholars is a multidisciplinary, multicultural graduate fellowship program spanning all seven schools at Stanford University. Scholars receive up to three years of financial support while engaging in experiences that prepare them to be visionary, courageous, and collaborative leaders who address complex challenges facing the world. Scholars are selected based on their demonstration of independence of thought, purposeful leadership, and a civic mindset. NSF GRFP Winners and Honorable Mentions from Middlebury!

We are excited that Seven from Middlebury receive National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships and another six received honorable mention! Congratulations to all! The NSF GRFP supports master’s and doctoral studies in STEM and broaden participation of the full spectrum of diverse talents. Created by Congress in 1975, the Truman Scholarship provides funding and support to aspiring leaders pursuing careers in public service. Over 3,500 Truman Scholars have gone on to successful careers in public service, serving in government and the military, transforming non-profits, and organizing for change in local communities.

The British Government-funded Marshall Scholarship allows up to 50 high-achieving American undergraduates each year to pursue fully-funded graduate study at any university in the UK in any academic topic. With multiple degree options and funded research and travel opportunities within the United Kingdom, the Marshall Scholarship provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunityto secure a postgraduate degree at one of the UK’s world-renowned academic institutions.

DOE Computational Science Graduate Fellowship, Apply by 1/17/24

he 2024-2025 application for the Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF) is now available online. Application final submission is due January 17, 2024.

The DOE CSGF provides financial support for students pursuing doctoral degrees in fields that use high-performance computing to solve complex problems in science and engineering (science and engineering track). The program also funds doctoral candidates in applied mathematics, statistics or computer science who are pursuing research that will contribute to more effective use of emerging high-performance systems (mathematics and computer science track).

Benefits:

  • Full payment of tuition, mandatory fees, and student-only health insurance
  • $45,000 annual stipend
  • $1,000 per year academic allowance
  • 12-week practicum at a DOE national laboratory
  • Annual fellows conference in Washington, D.C.
  • Renewable up to four years


Eligibility:

  • U.S. citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents
  • Senior undergraduates, first-year graduate students, or those matriculating into graduate school for fall 2024
  • Students must be planning full-time, uninterrupted study pursuing a Ph.D. at a U.S. accredited university
