“deadhead” flight – also known as dead mileage, dead running, or an empty leg, this term refers to a flight by a commercial plane without passengers.  These flights are typically employed to transport a plane between its storage area and the location where it picks up or drops off passengers.  Dead heading also occurs in other forms of transportation, such as busing.
