NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia (an affiliate of NARAL Pro-Choice America) is dedicated to building and sustaining a constituency that uses the political process to guarantee reproductive freedom for all women, including family planning, sexuality education, maternal health care, and safe, legal abortion.
NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Foundation seeks to fill the following internship positions for Summer 2009: Grassroots Organizing and Political Organizing.
Grassroots Organizing Internship
The intern will work closely with the Deputy Director to implement the grassroots organizing goals of the organization. Upon completion of this internship, the intern will possess the skills and experience to accept a position as a grassroots organizer, civic engagement coordinator, or field associate with any non-profit organization.
Note: This internship will require evening and weekend hours. It is also preferable that the intern have a car, as weekend canvassing will be outside Metro accessible areas.
Duties:
Summer Public Education Campaign Management
§ Recruit, train and mobilize volunteers to participate in summer grassroots campaign.
§ Develop phone and canvass scripts, call and walk lists, and other canvassing materials as necessary.
§ Supervise weekly phone banks and ensure that established contact goals are met by project deadline.
§ Oversee weekend door-to-door canvassing activities and ensure that established contact goals are met by project deadline.
Public Education Materials Development
· Assist in the creation of educational materials for statewide distribution.
· Develop website and social media campaign to complement field work.
Talking About Choice Trainings
§ Organize two trainings for activists on how to talk about reproductive rights issues.
§ Recruit NARAL members and activists to attend the trainings.
Administration
· Track progress toward established project goals and prepare weekly reports for Deputy Director.
· Process data cleanup at conclusion of project.

Political Organizing Internship
The interns will work closely with the Political and Policy Director to build an organization of pro-choice voters mobilized to vote in the 2009 Virginia statewide elections. Upon completion of this internship, the intern will possess the skills and experience to accept a position as a grassroots organizer, civic engagement coordinator, or field organizer with any non-profit organization or political campaign.
Note: This internship will require evening and weekend hours. It is also preferable that the intern have a car, as weekend canvassing will be outside Metro accessible areas.
Duties:
Field Campaign Management
§ Recruit, train and mobilize volunteers to participate in the organization’s electoral work.
§ Develop phone and canvass scripts, call and walk lists, and other canvassing materials as necessary.
§ Supervise weekly phone banks; ensure that established voter contact goals are met by project deadline.
§ Oversee weekend door-to-door canvassing activities; ensure that established voter contact goals are met by project deadline.
Research and Communications
· Maintain files on candidates’ records and public statements regarding reproductive rights and health.
· Develop website and social media campaign to complement field work.
Administration
· Track progress toward established project goals and prepare weekly reports for Deputy Director.
· Process data cleanup at conclusion of project.
