Policy Manager – J-PAL Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC)
J-PAL LAC is currently recruiting for a Policy Manager to lead a number of policy activities in Mexico and Central America. These activities include building relationships with key stakeholders, disseminating research findings to policymakers, leading networking follow-up and provision of technical assistance to government and civil society, and catalyzing new randomized evaluations, among others. The Policy Manager will also attend and organize conferences and training courses in the region. This position will be based in Mexico City.

Research Manager – J-PAL North America
J-PAL North America seeks a Research Manager to manage and support a number of randomized evaluations testing innovations across a broad range of sectors, with an initial emphasis on health care delivery. (Please see J-PAL’s health care delivery initiative at www.povertyactionlab.org/hcdi). The position offers the opportunity to work directly with senior academics who lead the evaluations, including Scientific Director Amy Finkelstein. By joining the initial team J-PAL North America, this position offers the opportunity for high-performing staff to influence the scope of the office’s work and take on increasing responsibility and leadership opportunities.

Visa Requirements: This position requires permanent work authorization for the United States and is not eligible for any type of Visa sponsorship via MIT.

Policy and Training Manager – J-PAL South Asia
J-PAL South Asia is currently recruiting for Policy and Training Managers to lead a number of policy and capacity building related activities in the region. These activities include the dissemination of results of J-PAL research to policymakers, organization of policy outreach and training activities (including custom courses and advisory services), identification of potential new evaluations/ replications, and support of scale-up initiatives in the region.

Policy and Training Associate – J-PAL South Asia
J-PAL South Asia is currently recruiting for Policy and Training Associates to support the Policy and Training team in India and the South Asia region. P&T Associates support training programs delivered by JPSA-CLEAR and our partner organizations in the region, the dissemination of results of J-PAL research to policymakers, potential new evaluations, replications and scale-ups in the region.

Assistant Director – Training, J-PAL South Asia / Programme Director, CLEAR South Asia
J-PAL SA at IFMR has hosted the South Asia Regional Centre for Learning on Evaluation and Results (CLEAR) since April 2011. CLEAR South Asia is one of five regional centres established through an initiative coordinated by the World Bank’s Independent Evaluation Group. J-PAL/ CLEAR SA is currently recruiting an Assistant Director – Training to set and drive CLEAR strategy and target outcomes, execute strategy, meeting annual and quarterly targets through delivery of high-quality capacity building services. Graduating Seniors: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern Position Open at iMMAP in Amman, Jordan!

The Kibbutz Program Center (KPC), a part of an Israeli organization called Ameinu, has many service-based programs in Israel for young adults looking to travel to Israel and get involved in social justice!

Achvat Amim – Solidarity of Nations is a framework for meaningful engagement with leading Israeli social justice organizations in and around Jerusalem. Achvat Amim focuses on developing practical skills in community development and education through intensive volunteer projects and engaging with social change and human rights movements. By renewing the conversation on Jewish Peoplehood and Zionism for the 21st century, participants can explore and help shape Jewish culture and identity for themselves and the Jewish people. The Intensive Arabic Semester Program offers a holistic approach to language learning, coexistence work, and inter-community volunteering between Israeli Jews and Israeli Arabs. During the course of the five-month program, our students learn Hebrew, standard and spoken Arabic, and Israeli and Middle Eastern History. Students experience Israeli Kibbutz life while simultaneously being immersed in the local Arab culture through volunteering, field trips, and home stay families. The program is administered by Givat Haviva and now is accredited by the Al Qasemi Academic College of Education. The Lotan Center for Creative Ecology offers short and long-term hands-on opportunity at Kibbutz Lotan to allow anyone to discover the challenges involved with the design, building and running of sustainable communities, linking together ecological, social, economical and spiritual aspects into a unified whole. Practical skills are developed through hands-on work in our environmental education center, organic gardens, alternative/natural building projects and the Lotan Nature and Migratory Bird Reserve, complemented by theoretical sessions in topics such as ecological design, permaculture and sustainability. Practical work includes: Organic gardening, natural & alternative building with mud, straw and straw bales, tires and recycled waste, creative recycling – creating art and usable objects with discarded materials, expansion, maintenance and running of the Center for Creative Ecology, development and upkeep of the nature reserve and nature trails, setting up workshops for educational tour groups, and more. iTrack – Build Your OWN Experience – For participants interested in creating their own social justice experience in Israel, we offer iTrack – The Build Your OWN Experience program. Our knowledgeable KPC staff works one-on-one to help each applicant create a personalized 4-10 month Israel experience. Each program is uniquely built by and for the participants allowing them to engage with the Israeli social justice struggles that best fit their values and interests. Attention Graduating Seniors – Interested in Education and Service? Apply to Match Corps!

Match Corps is a year-long tutoring program in which highly qualified college graduates work closely with K-12 students.  Match Corps is associated with Match Education, an organization that works to operate public charter schools in urban areas and train teachers for high-poverty schools.  Many alumni of Match Corps go on to pursue careers outside of education, but nonetheless apply experience they gained during their year of training.  See the Match Corps alumni page to read about alumni and their experiences with the program.  Match Corps has two locations, Boston and Chicago, and has rolling admissions until June 15th – apply now and hear back within a month!

For those graduates interested in pursuing a career in education, Match Education also has a program called the Match Teacher Residency (MTR), which is located in Boston.  MTR residents work in the Match Corps program Monday through Thursday and then receive intensive MTR training on Fridays and Saturdays.  In the spring, MTR helps residents to find jobs at top urban charter schools around the country.  Visit the MTR page to read more about this program and its “sister” institution, the Sposato Graduate School of Education (SGSE).

Center for Social Entreprenuership Summer Grant Program – Deadline Mar. 31st!

The deadline for Center for Social Entrepreneurship (CSE) Summer Grants for Summer 2014 is 5:00 pm on Monday, March 31, 2014.

To be considered, a student (or group of students) must prepare a written description of the project (who, what, where, how) including expected outcomes and prospects for future impact (not to exceed two pages) as well as a budget for the $3,000 grant (budget not to exceed one page). Proposals should include pre-approval of all involved community partner parties and organizations involved in the project. Please include your name, ID number, nationality, and whether you have applied for other funding opportunities. Students must include their own fundraising plan to complement Middlebury’s grant. The two-page proposal and one-page budget should be submitted electronically to the CSE before or at 5:00 pm on Monday March 31, 2014. Email applications to: hneuwirth@middlebury.edu

Interested in Agriculture and Food? Apply to work at the Berry Center!

In 1977 Wendell Berry published The Unsettling of America, Culture and Agriculture, which launched the national and international conversation about the state of agriculture and food.  A newly posted Middlebury FoodWorks position is at the Berry Center, where his legacy continues, archiving Wendell’s personal papers and articles and working for A Place on Earth CSA, named after one of his books.  Other FoodWorks positions remain available – and some original positions reopened – where you can get paid to help develop critical local food infrastructure in Louisville and Vermont.
