This week we will have extended weekend hours for Fall Family Weekend! Stop in from to 9am -5pm on Saturday October 12 or 9am-3pm on Sunday October 13 to pick up any of your computer or electronic needs- or to to show your family members the new gadgets you’ve got your eye on!
We also wanted to give you a few tips about using your iPad as a camera. With everyone testing out Apple’s new phones and operating systems, there are quite a few tricks that can be picked up along the way to optimize your experience. While we don’t sell iphones in the bookstore, many of our students coming in to buy Apple computers or devices are using the new operating system and we wanted to share a few tips with them.
1. Changing Text Size
When you launch settings, you can go to “General” and then to “Text Size” and drag a slider to adjust until you find the perfect text size for you. The text on the screen changes as you move the slider so you can perfectly see what your chosen size will look like.
2.Continuous Shooting/Burst
This is not completely new for iOS7, but many people do not know about continusous shooting mode. While in the camera app., hold down the shutter button and rather than taking one picture, your phone will continuously shoot pictures and dave them to your image roll. You can use this along the new “Burst” shooting function that allows the iphone 5s to take 10 photos per second.
3.Do Not Disturb
If you bring your phone to class or if you use it as an alarm as you sleep you don’t always want to hear or see push notifications. The “Do Not Disturb” feature was improved on iOS7. Navigate to Settings>Do Not Disturb to silence calls, texts, or other notifications even when a phone is unlocked.

We are now carrying two lines of fun, vibrant nail polishes here at the bookstore. Choose from an array of “POPtastic” polishes in bright summery shades or try one of the many “Ruby Wing” color changing nail polishes. Many color-changing nail polishes do not live up to their name, but our employee JoEllen tried the silver sparkle to purple shimmer and it dramatically changed from her walk indoors to outdoors- so we know these work great! Many students forget- or are just too lazy- to back up their work. When they come in with failed hard drives or computers in need of repair, they have no way to access their files. We wanted to remind students how to put the Middfiles shortcut in the dock. This makes for a fast and easy way to save works-in-progress or valuable files in case of future computer emergencies.
1. Click on the link below to connect to the server.

2.Type smb://middfiles.middlebury.edu/middfiles into the server address box.
3. When the Middfiles folder is up and you can see the title as Middfiles on the Middfiles folder
4. Drag the icon next to that title to your dock next to (but not in) the trash icon in your dock.
Now you are ready take on the task of backing up starting with just a click on the icon in your dock!
