- Homecoming activities filled the calendar last weekend as returning alums enjoyed everything from athletics to arts. See a great recap of the event here.
- Veteran head soccer coach David Saward enjoyed his 300th win on Saturday, as the seventh-seeded Panthers took Wesleyan 3-2 in a NESCAC quarterfinal game. Read more about the game and the team, and be sure to tip your hat to Saward when you see him around campus.
- The much-loved and oft-visited Patrick Dougherty sculpture “So Inclined” is no more. The leaning towers of twigs were deconstructed earlier this week after serving the scenery for two years longer than it was ever intended! (Dougherty’s natural and temporary art usually decomposes, but “So Inclined” sustained the weather almost too well.) Ultimately it had to be removed for safety reasons. - Enter the world of enigmatic graffiti artist Banksy via the film Exit Through the Gift Shop, showing this Saturday, November 5, at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. The film is part of this year’s Hirschfield International Film Series, which takes place in Dana Auditorium and is free.
- Big ideas take center stage this Saturday with TEDxMiddlebury2011. TEDx is Middlebury’s locally organized event based on the international phenomenon TED (technology, entertainment, design), which is all about the sharing of great ideas. Tickets are officially sold out, but the group will be hosting free live-streaming of the event throughout the campus. Check the website for updates and info.
