Memories of summer are fading, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t share one last impression. Each August, while many of us are thinking back-to-school thoughts, a group of Middlebury alumni and friends gather at Bread Loaf for a weekend-long “Alumni College”—their own version of back-to-school. Purely for the joy of learning (yes, the cocktails and dining are pretty good too), these alum students choose a class and immerse themselves for three days. This year, some studied geology of the Green Mountains, while others explored Vermont politics with former governor and Midd alum Jim Douglas ’72. Other groups studied the psychology of happiness and modern India. MiddMag spent a day at this year’s Alumni College and we were hooked. Here are some sights and sounds from the day:
