Horror movies have always entertained and fascinated me. The fantasy worlds created in each horror movie, weather it be zombie, vampire, serial killer, alien, or what have you, the narrative conventions vary immensely. I would like to focus on one type of horror film, perhaps a series by one director, and explore its partucular influences and innovations. Also, I’m interested to see how context shapes the narrative conventions of horror moves.

JJ – looking at a genre (or a specific subgenre or slice of the genre) is a good strategy. I’m not sure what your key research questions are, and how it relates to the course’s approach to narrative. I think ideally you should explore how a particular mode of horror employs narrative strategies, or how a certain trend emerged in terms of narration (like the “final girl” narratives).
