In 1977 Wendell Berry published The Unsettling of America, Culture and Agriculture, which launched the national and international conversation about the state of agriculture and food. A newly posted Middlebury FoodWorks position is at the Berry Center, where his legacy continues, archiving Wendell’s personal papers and articles and working for A Place on Earth CSA, named after one of his books. Other FoodWorks positions remain available – and some original positions reopened – where you can get paid to help develop critical local food infrastructure in Louisville and Vermont.

The Fund for the Public Interest is a national non-profit organization that works to build support for progressive organizations across the country. Fund for the Public Interest runs campaigns for USPIRG, Environment America, the Human Rights Campaign, and Environmental Action. Currently, there are paid positions open on campaign staff in each of the organization locations.
Strong candidates are hard workers and have excellent communication skills. As a member of Fund for the Public Interest staff, you will fund raise, build membership for our partner groups, and educate and activate citizens on pressing issues. You will also have the opportunity to organize press conferences and build coalitions with other non-profit organizations. Positions are open to all classes. The pay rate is $9-15/hr (varies by location).

Internship available: LEED Innovation Credits Researcher for Middlebury Field House Design and Construction
This internship is a non-credit bearing opportunity for Middlebury students interested in green building design and construction. The internship will be focused on researching and developing proposals for innovative features to be considered for a new field house the College is designing pursuant to its Sustainable Design Guidelines which are based on the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program (LEED). Middlebury is seeking LEED certification for this project.
One to two interns will be hired to work closely with Sasaki Associates of Cambridge, MA, who are designing the field house with a committee of faculty, staff and students at the College. Interns will be supervised by Jack Byrne, Director of Sustainability Integration, and Andrea Murray, Visiting Instructor in Architecture. They will also work closely with the College’s project manager Mark Gleason. Interns will need to be available, in Middlebury for 2 or 3 days a week, approximately 16-24 hours a week.
