The role of the intern is to work in collaboration with a Master Gardener who has overseen the garden for 6 years as well as the food service Director who will be in charge of summer meal sites and summer processing of garden food for use in Fall school meals.

Two PAID Martha’s Vineyard Conservation Internships!  Housing Is Provided!

The Summer Conservation Intern will report directly to the Islands Land Steward, with frequent interaction with the Islands Program Manager, the Eastern Massachusetts Program Director, and native plant specialists. During the 12-week period, the intern will:

• Gain practical experience in land management and restoration

• Learn proper research and monitoring protocols for restoration projects

• Become knowledgeable of the plants and animals endemic to the Sandplains

• Be exposed to The Nature Conservancy’s mission, culture and values.

Duties:

• Assist the Islands Land Steward in managing and restoring Sandplain grassland and shrub land ecosystems on Martha’s Vineyard

• Become knowledgeable in the local flora of the island’s ecosystems to assist in site inventory, restoration project monitoring, and effective management

• Facilitate the management of a native plant nursery by supervising volunteers, weeding, transplanting seedlings, operating irrigation systems, collecting seed from early-flowering, low stature, or rare species

• Assist in stewardship and preserve management activities such as boundary posting, legal monitoring, invasive species control, and equipment maintenance

• As needed, assist TNC partners such as shorebird monitors, the Oak Bluffs Shellfish Constable, and graduate students.

Volunteer in June 2012 in Ghana for Community Water Solutions

Interested in volunteering in Africa?  Want to learn more about the global water crisis?   Looking for experience working in the field?

The CWS Fellowship Program is a three-week water education and leadership training experience in Northern Region Ghana. The purpose of the program is to teach individuals about the global water crisis, and inspire them to become leaders in the field of international development.

Fellows are grouped in teams of four and paired with a rural community in Northern Region Ghana. On the ground, teams are first trained in water quality testing, and the CWS water treatment methods.  They then spend two and a half weeks in the field implementing and monitoring a CWS water business in their village. By the end of the 3 week program, each team will have provided a permanent source of safe drinking water for an entire community (approximately 500~1,000 people)!

Global Health Corps Fellowship Due Friday, 2/17

Global Health Corps Fellowship

APPLICATION DEADLINE: FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17

The Global Health Corps is working to build the movement for global health equity by supporting emerging leaders in year-long fellowships with global health organizations in Burundi, Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, and the US. This year, they are hoping to place over 90 fellows in organizations like Partners In Health, the Millennium Villages Project, Clinton Health Access Initiative, and the State Department, working on everything from architecture to communications and fundraising, to training and direct service. GHC has a unique model for service learning, helping fellows to learn the leadership and technical skills they need in this field while pairing fellows with a local fellow to better understand culture and context, and emphasizing the importance of reflection and discernment while doing this work.

Eligibility

Global Health Corps Fellows must:

  • Be under age 30 at the time of application
  • Have an undergraduate university degree by July 2012

Women & Public Policy Summer Internship

The Public Leadership Education Network (PLEN) is the place to be if you’re a college woman interested in a career in public policy. PLEN is unique: Nowhere else can students learn how Washington, D.C. really works from a faculty comprised exclusively of women leaders who make and influence public policy every day. These women are members of Congress, major judicial figures, presidential advisors, senior government leaders, nonprofit advocates and corporate lobbyists.

Through PLEN, you’ll secure a summer internship directed at your specific interests during the weeks of May 21-July 27, 2012. PLEN helps you focus on what organizations will give you the best experience, help you develop a resume and land the spot you want, and coach you through the application process.

Once in Washington, you’ll meet at least weekly with PLEN and other PLEN interns to process your experience, expand your contacts by meeting with women leaders, and exchange information and impressions with other interns.

You’ll also participate in PLEN skill-building sessions to begin developing important career-related expertise in areas like networking, job interviewing, and salary negotiations.

Amanda W. Maxwell joined the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) in July 2009, in the Washington, D.C. office. As the Director of Latin America Projects, Ms. Maxwell manages all of NRDC’s campaigns in Mexico, Central America and South America, where the organization works on environmental conservation, energy development, sustainable tourism, fresh water supply, deforestation and other issues.  Ms. Maxwell also leads projects promoting the development of sustainable energy and energy efficiency in the region as a whole. The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is a camp in Connecticut for kids and teens living with serious or chronic illnesses. This session will be about employment and volunteer opportunities for summer 2012. There are positions in both the general camp for kids ages 7-15 and the wilderness program for ages 16-18. It’s an amazing place and opportunity!! Established in 1988, it is the first camp founded in Paul Newman’s family of camps collectively know as The Association of Hole in the Wall Camps.

The Summerbridge internship program provides a stipend and housing and will give you extraordinary hands-on classroom teaching experience that is unparalleled for college undergraduates. Summerbridge internship program is a collaboration between Teach Kentucky and Summerbridge, which is a summer school experience for at-risk youth. In addition to teaching at-risk students transitioning into middle school and high school you will be a full faculty colleague with other outstanding college peers for across the country.
