Addicts will always need care and attention, sadly there are very few people who are willing to help them.  Since there are so few people qualified to help, addicts are not receiving the personal attention that they need.  Doctors should be helping around 100 patients, but many have as many as 200 patients.  The doctors are being stretched thin, which is limiting their effectiveness.  For the doctors to work at maximum efficiency, the state must hire more doctors.  This increase in doctors can only come with an increase in funding, which will only come if the public pushes for it.

The public will not push for this increase in spending as long as they remain uneducated.  The heads of the Turning Point Centers all point to a lack of education as to why there isn’t more support for the rehab centers.  To educate the Centers have begun showing informational films in their towns and schools, and trying to motivate the citizens towards action during town meetings.  This is the kind of work that will help change the rehabilitation problem in Vermont.  There is still much work to be done, but if the people of Vermont give their support to the cause then there is no reason that things shouldn’t improve.
