Humanity in Action Fellowship Program–Application Open!

Applications for the 2015 Humanity in Action Fellowship programs in Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Paris and Warsaw are now open. Middlebury participants have found this to be a fabulous educational experience.

Humanity in Action invites applications from college students and recent graduates who are passionate about active and responsible citizenship, diversity and human rights. Current sophomores, juniors and seniors as well as graduates from the undergraduate classes of 2013 and 2014 are eligible. We encourage students of all academic disciplines, interests and backgrounds to apply.

The 2015 Humanity in Action Fellowship will run from May 25-June 28, 2015. The deadline to apply for this program is January 8, 2015. For more information, see www.humanityinaction.org

Students from the Creating Connections Consortium (C3) – which includes Middlebury College – are encouraged to apply for faculty/graduate student-mentored research opportunities in the Arts, Humanities, and Social and Physical Sciences. Participants will engage in graduate-level research and hone skills necessary to apply to and succeed in graduate and professional programs.

C3 applicants from diverse populations and backgrounds historically underrepresented in higher education are encouraged to apply.

  • Exposure to graduate-level research, mentor/advisee relationships, GRE preparation, and the graduate school application process
  • Weekly seminars, workshops, and group events
  • Participants present research results to faculty, graduate students, and the campus community at final Research Symposium
  • Transportation, stipend, and campus housing provided

Boren Scholarships for Undergraduate Study Abroad

If you’re a current undergraduate interested in studying abroad in a country outside of Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand, you may be interested in the Boren Scholarships! Here’s the info:
The applications for the 2011-2012 National Security Education Program’s David L. Boren Scholarships for undergraduate students and Fellowships for graduate students are now available at www.borenawards.org<http://www.borenawards.org/>. Boren Awards provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. students to study in Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East, where they can add important international and language components to their educations.

Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 for an academic year’s study abroad. Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 for language study and international research. The application deadline for the Boren Fellowship is February 1, and the deadline for the Boren Scholarship is February 10.

Sophomores and Juniors: Summer Internship Program in Indonesia

Sophomores and juniors, here is an exciting new summer internship program in the Indonesian non-profit sector. The Freeman Indonesia Nonprofit Internship Program (FINIP), funded by the Freeman Foundation, aims to develop student leaders and strengthen the nonprofit sector in Indonesia. IIE will select and pair 10 Indonesian students pursuing U.S. degrees with 10 U.S. undergraduates and arrange internships for them to work together in an Indonesian nonprofit organization.

The 9-week experience, from June 15 to August 17, 2010, arranged by IIE’s partner organization, the Indonesian International Education Foundation (IIEF), will take place in three cities: Jakarta, Bandung and Yogyakarta. All program-related costs will be covered.

Upon returning to the U.S., students will be expected to share their experiences with peers on their home campuses and to explore ways to incorporate what they learned over the summer into their academic and professional careers.

Interested American and Indonesian sophomores and juniors enrolled in U.S. institutions are encouraged to apply, using the online application at http://www.iie.org/programs/finip . The deadline for submission of completed applications is February 15, 2010.
