Nov 8 Internal Deadline for Truman, Beinecke, Goldwater, St. Andrews

The internal deadline is fast approaching!

If you are considering applying for nomination for the Truman, Beinecke, Goldwater or St. Andrews Scholarship, now is the time to organize your application and ask questions.

For information about each of these scholarships, see go/fellowships and look at the listing of fellowships.

Beinecke: Current junior studying humanities, arts, social sciences; US citizen receiving financial aid

Goldwater: Current sophomore or junior planning a research career in science; US citizens

St. Andrews: Seniors interested in post-graduate study in Scotland who receive financial aid; US Citizen

Truman: Current junior interested in public affairs or public service; US citizen

Each has specific eligibility requirements (citizenship, GPA, financial aid, professional/educational plans) so read carefully!

Nomination Applications for the Churchill Scholarship Due Oct 1 (noon)!

The competition is now open for 15 Churchill Scholarships in science, mathematics, and engineering! Current seniors or recent graduates (2018 and 2017.5) must apply for Middlebury’s nomination by noon on Oct. 1. 

The Churchill Scholarship provide funding for a year of Master’s study at the University of Cambridge, based at Churchill College.

Nominees apply for one of two Master’s degrees: the MPhil (Master of Philosophy) or MASt (Master of Advanced Study) in a STEM field. See eligible fields: http://www.churchillscholarship.org/programs.html 

Applicants must be a citizen of the United States, a current senior or recently graduated within the past 12 months. Applicants must also apply to the selected program at Cambridge; applications are strongly encouraged to be made by Oct. 10.

Kanders Churchill Scholarship (MPhilPP, Cambridge University)–Deadline Oct 10!

The deadline for the Kanders Churchill Scholarship is fast approaching: Oct 10, 2018!  The Kanders Churchill Scholarship is designed to address the growing divide between science and science policy and supports a one-year masters program in public policy at Cambridge University.

To apply, candidates will state their interest in the Kanders Churchill Scholarship on their Cambridge application: (see https://www.polis.cam.ac.uk/study-at-polis/graduates/MPhilPP/fees-and-funding).

To be eligible, applicants must be a US citizen, a current senior or college graduate with a major or minor concentration in science, mathematics, or engineering, and attend the Cambridge Master’s in Public Policy

NIH Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program & NIH MD/PhD Partnership Training Program Application Opens Aug 1

The application portal opens August 1, 2018!

These programs are looking for outstanding scholars who wish to pursue a PhD or MD/PhD through an accelerated, interdisciplinary, collaborative biomedical research program. The program is based on the British system, in which students perform doctoral research without required formal courses other than those students choose to take in relationship to their own interests. Students selected for admission to the program have already developed a passion for science through engagement in summer, job related, or undergraduate research programs. These programs provide a unique training opportunity at the largest biomedical research facility in the world.

Basic application requirements as follows: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (minimum)
  • GRE and/or MCAT scores
  • US Citizen or permanent resident

STEM Students: Goldwater Scholarship Nomination Deadline Nov 10 (noon)

The BARRY GOLDWATER SCHOLARSHIP is designed to attract outstanding students into research careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit to students who are sophomores or juniors during the current academic year and who have excellent academic records and demonstrated interest in and potential for research careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering.

The scholarship covers undergraduate eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room and board to a maximum of $7,500 per academic year. To be considered for nomination, a student must:

  • A current sophomore or junior
  • Have an average of at least B or the equivalent (and competitive applicants typically have GPAs of 3.7 and higher).
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Have a demonstrated interest in a research career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. Demonstrated research experience is also important for a competitive application. Students planning an MD/PhD program must be focused on research.

To apply for nomination, Middlebury sophomores and juniors MUST complete the Goldwater pre-application by Nov 10 at noon. Middlebury nominees will be selected in November. For full nomination instructions, see go.middlebury.edu/goldwater
