Juniors interested in careers in the foreign service–check out the Pickering Undergraduate Fellowship

We were just notified that the Pickering Undergraduate Fellowship is indeed happening this year. Deadline is January 23, 2015–so you need to hustle! The Pickering provides two years of funding for students planning to pursue careers in the foreign service. There is an undergraduate fellowship that provides funding for senior year in college and the first year of a masters program AND a graduate fellowship that provides funding for a two-year masters program. Who is eligible for the Pickering Undergraduate Fellowship?

  • Only individuals who are United States citizens at the time of application will be considered.
  • Applicants must be in the junior year of undergraduate study (or equivalent).
  • Applicants must be expecting to receive their bachelor’s degree in spring 2016.
  • Winners are expected to enroll in a two-year, full-time master’s degree program in an academic field relevant to the work of the Foreign Service.
  • The Fellowship does not fund law or joint law degree programs.
  • Only U.S. institutions based in the U.S. are eligible.
  • Applicants must be available to fulfill the summer internship obligations (summer 2016 & 2017)
  • Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale at the time of application.
  • A cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale must be maintained throughout participation in the program.

Scholarship Opportunities at King’s College London

For students thinking about studying in the UK: King’s is pleased to announce three new scholarships for international students pursuing graduate study in 2015.

King’s President’s International Scholarships
Twenty international students will be selected to receive this scholarship. The maximum award is £10,000. Applications must be received by 17:00 GMT, 31st March 2015. See the Application Guide for further details.

Canadian Friends Award for Masters Students
One scholarship of £1,000 will be awarded to a Canadian resident undertaking a full-time masters programme at King’s beginning in 2015. Applications must be received by 17:00 GMT, 31st March 2015. See the Application Guide for further details.

Friends of King’s College London Association Scholarship

Udall Scholarship for Sophomores and Juniors Interested in Environmental Issues

Apply for the Udall Scholarship! For Sophomores and Juniors committed to careers related to the environment. The Udall provides up to $5,000 for tuition, fees, educational expenses. Eligibility: GPA 3.5 and up; U.S. citizen; demonstrated commitment to work with environmental issues through academic study and activities. Interested in Foreign Service? Seniors and alumni–check these out!

There are some great programs that provide undergraduate and graduate funding for students interested in the foreign service. Check out the fellowships below. These programs are especially interested in supporting groups historically underrepresented in the foreign service and economic need. All have a service requirement, minimum GPA and require US citizenship. You apply directly for these, but we’re happy to talk with you about your interest and application–just let us know!
