Scholarship Information Sessions Coming Up

FULBRIGHT US STUDENT GRANT PROGRAM – Information Session Monday, April 30 at 4:30 pm in Axinn 229.  Are you a member of the class of 2013 (or 2014 but plan to be away next spring), and considering conducting research, assistant-teaching in English, or studying abroad after graduation?   You could be one of more than 1,600 US students – and approximately 8-10 Middlebury graduates – who receive a Fulbright US Student Grant each year to go overseas post-graduation. The US Student Fulbright Program operates in in more than 150 countries worldwide and awards grants in nearly all fields and disciplines, including the sciences, professional fields and creative and performing arts.

The British Scholarships Information Session will be held Wednesday, May 2 at 4:30 PM in Axinn 229.  This session is for juniors who are interested in applying in fall, 2012, for the highly competitive and rewarding fellowships to pursue graduate study in the UK. Sophomores who are interested but plan to be away next spring should also attend. Fellowships to be discussed include Rhodes, Churchill, Gates Cambridge, Keasbey, Marshall, Mitchell, and St. Andrew’s. Mitchell Scholarship Application for Graduate Study in Ireland Now Open

The Mitchell Scholars Program offers a nationally competitive scholarship sponsored by the US-Ireland Alliance.

The Mitchell Scholars Program, named to honor former US Senator George Mitchell’s pivotal contribution to the Northern Ireland peace process, is designed to introduce and connect generations of future American leaders to the island of Ireland, while recognizing and fostering intellectual achievement, leadership, and a commitment to community and public service. Up to twelve Mitchell Scholars between the ages of 18 and 30 are chosen annually for one year of postgraduate study in any discipline offered by institutions of higher learning in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Applicants are judged on three criteria: scholarship, leadership, and a sustained commitment to community and public service. Borlaug (graduate) Fellowship deadline extended to May 31, 2012

A unique post-graduate opportunity for students to know about once they are clear about their graduate school plans:

The Center for Global Food Security at Purdue University (http://www.purdue.edu/discoverypark/food) is kicking off the Borlaug Fellowship program, which aims to provide financial support to US graduate students studying in US universities to carry out research in a developing country on a topic that will resolve an important constraint associated with food security.   This five-year program is funded by the US Agency for International Development.  These fellowships are meant to complement other sources of financial assistance that students have obtained to support their graduate work.  The deadline for the first round of applications has been extended until May 31st.  Subsequent rounds will be announced beginning in early fall 2012.

Glamour Top Ten College Women Scholarship Competition Open

Glamour’s Top Ten College Women Scholarship Competition is back in action for 2012! The contest, now in its 56th year, annually recognizes ten of the most accomplished college juniors from across the U.S. and Canada. All ten winners receive $3,000 and a trip to New York, and are featured  in the May issue of Glamour, while one grand prize winner will take home $20,000 for her tuition and projects. Frugaldad.com offering $5000 Scholarship: April 30 Deadline Approaching
