Interested in ETA positions that don’t require knowledge of a host-country language? Here’s a new one!

*NEW* ETA Program in Timor-Leste (2): Grantees will be placed at either a high school or university setting and work with English teachers to provide conversational English and/or integrate English language courses.  A brief description of preference can be highlighted in the statement of purpose.  University placement will be in the capital of Dili, Timor-Leste.  High school placement may be in Dili or in a rural setting.  Grantees will serve as a resource for conversation, vocabulary, reading, writing, and American cultural topics.

Schools in Timor-Leste are very crowded and lack conveniences such as air conditioning, hot water, gyms, and Western food. All ETAs will have access to internet connectivity. Candidates must be willing to adapt to local living conditions.

Approximately 30 hours per week will be spent in the classroom assisting English teachers and leading English activities. An additional 5-10 hours will be devoted to participating in or leading school-related activities, clubs, teams, etc. Applications should highlight the applicant’s talents/experience in coaching sports, music, theatre, art, and other skills that could be useful for engaging students both in and out of the classroom.

Foreign Language Proficiency: Not required

Brazil ETA Program 2017-18 Expansion- Special Application for Grants to Begin Feb 2018!

Open Competition for New Fulbright ETA Awards in Brazil – February 2018!!

Special application open May 2, 2017- July 14, 2017 

 With funding from the Brazilian government, the Fulbright Brazil ETA Program is expanded for the Program Year 2017-18 with 76 additional grants to be offered.   A special open application period will be held from May 2 to July 14, 2017.  The deadline is Friday, July 14 at 5:00 pm Eastern Time.   

To be eligible, applicants must be a U.S. citizen and hold a bachelor’s degree by July 14, 2017.  Additional requirements/preferences for this program include:

  • Must available for the full grant term: mid-February to November, 2018.
  • Cannot be residing in Brazil for more than three months in the 12 months prior to the grant start. Exception can be made for language immersion program enrollment.
  • Proficiency in a Romance language at the intermediate level (equivalent to 2-years college level study) is required at the time of application.
  • Experience working in an educational environment, specifically with classroom teaching or leadership is strongly preferred.. 

Persons who applied for a Fulbright U.S. Student Program in the fall 2017 but did not receive a grant offer for 2017-18 are also eligible to apply for this opportunity.  In this case, candidates will create a new application account in Embark with a different email address and complete the full application—respond to all questions, revise and upload new essays, request new Reference Forms (2 are required for this competition), request a Foreign Language Evaluation in one of the required languages, and upload the most recent transcript(s) of all degree level course work.  However, the Campus Committee Interview/Evaluation will not apply.

Tucker Van Aken ’12 will discuss his experiences as a Fulbrighter in China. Dean Lisa Gates will be on hand to answer questions about the Fulbright or application process. This session is for students interested in learning more about the Fulbright and possibly applying in the fall. Graduating seniors and recent alumni can apply. Learn more at go/fulbright

New Fulbright ETA to Netherlands

Netherlands ETA (10)  

Well-qualified U.S. Bachelor’s and Master’s graduates from all fields of study are welcome to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with previous teaching experience and plans to pursue a career in education. Applicants should be enthusiastic, highly motivated and flexible in order to successfully work with a team of teachers in several different classroom settings. Candidates are encouraged to include a capstone project proposal in their applications.

Grantees will be placed in one or two secondary schools and/or middle vocational training schools throughout the Netherlands in areas with low populations of native English speakers. ETAs will spend between 20 and 24 hours each week teaching. In addition, grantees are required to carry out a supplementary project over the course of their grant. This can be in the form of creating an extracurricular club (language, sport, or culture club) or research project related to education. These projects will be presented at an end-of-year conference and complied for future ETAs to use as a resource.

Dutch language proficiency is not required. Some study of Dutch prior to arrival is encouraged.
