NIH Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program & NIH MD/PhD Partnership Training Program Application Opens Aug 1

The application portal opens August 1, 2018!

These programs are looking for outstanding scholars who wish to pursue a PhD or MD/PhD through an accelerated, interdisciplinary, collaborative biomedical research program. The program is based on the British system, in which students perform doctoral research without required formal courses other than those students choose to take in relationship to their own interests. Students selected for admission to the program have already developed a passion for science through engagement in summer, job related, or undergraduate research programs. These programs provide a unique training opportunity at the largest biomedical research facility in the world.

  • Bachelor’s Degree (minimum)
  • GRE and/or MCAT scores
  • US Citizen or permanent resident

Summer Undergrad Researchers: Apply for Travel Grants to October National Diversity in STEM Conference

The Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) is accepting applications from summer undergraduate researchers for travel grants to the 2017 National Diversity in STEM Conference, which will be held in Salt Lake City on October 19-21, 2017. The application deadline is July 14, 2017.

NOTE: you must join SACNAS as a student member to apply for the travel grant.

Travel Grant Applications Due August 25 for Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students

The Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRAMS), which seeks to encourage underrepresented minority students in STEM, is offering travel grants for student presenters and faculty judges at the November conference in Phoenix. Applications are due August 25, 2017.

Summer Research on Substance Abuse and Addiction

National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Research Internship Program

Application Deadline: February 10, 2017

Summer research internships located at approximately 47 sites in 23 states. Interns work with NIDA funded scientists at research institutions across the US for 8 weeks in the field of substance abuse and addiction research. Internships may involve a variety of experiences including laboratory experiments, data collection and analysis, patient interviews, literature reviews and more.

•Applicants must be at least 18 years old by May 31, 2017, must be enrolled in a higher education institution, and must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Graduating 2017 college seniors are eligible to apply

•Interns receive a stipend of $12/hr., and if necessary and eligible, provisions for travel and housing expenses.

•Focus on recruiting students underrepresented in the biomedical, behavioral, and clinical sciences (American Indian/Alaska Native, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander).

Summer Amgen Scholars Program at Harvard

Harvard University is one of ten U.S. institutions that again will be offering a ten-week Amgen Scholars Program in the summer of 2017.

The Harvard-Amgen program, with an emphasis on biotechnology research, affords a diverse cohort of rising undergraduate juniors and seniors the opportunity to work in the laboratories of faculty across the Harvard universe, including the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the Division of Medical Sciences at Harvard Medical School. In addition to an engaging, formative research experience, Harvard-Amgen Scholars will live among the 400 undergraduates residents of the Harvard Summer Undergraduate Research Village community in one of the historic Houses along the Charles River.

The deadline to submit complete applications is Monday, February 1, 2017.
