Join Christian Tanja from the Schwarzman Scholars Program to learn about this post-graduate fellowship to China. Open to international and US students, the language of instruction is English. The Schwarzman scholarship, inspired by the Rhodes scholarship, is a program designed to help future leaders meet the challenges of the 21st century and beyond by preparing them to better understand China’s culture, economy, governance, and motivations. Scholars will study for a one-year Masters’ degree in public policy, international relations, or economics and business at Tsinghua University—fully funded. 10 new generous, fully funded PhD Studentships for study in the UK and Australia

The University of Exeter and the University of Queensland are proud to announce 10 new generous, fully funded PhD studentships that will allow successful students to graduate with a joint PhD from the two institutions.

The University of Exeter and the University of Queensland are seeking exceptional students to join a world-leading, cross-continental research team tackling major challenges facing the world’s population in global sustainability and wellbeing as part of the recently launched QUEX Institute. The joint PhD programme provides a fantastic opportunity for the most talented doctoral students to work closely with world class research groups and benefit from the combined expertise and facilities offered at the two institutions. This prestigious programme provides full tuition fees, stipend, travel funds and Research Training Support Grants to the successful applicants.

The 10 studentships are available for the best applicants, 5 offered by the University of Exeter and 5 by the University of Queensland. This select group will have the chance to study in the UK and Australia, and will graduate with a double degree from the University of Exeter and the University of Queensland.

Successful applicants will have a strong academic background and track record to undertake research projects based in one of the three themes of:  Physical Activity and Nutrition; Healthy Ageing; and Environmental Sustainability. 

Closing date 11 September 2017, with interviews in w/c 25 September 2017.  Start date in January 2018.

New! Kanders Churchill Fellowship for Graduate Study of Science Policy

The Winston Churchill Foundation of the United States is pleased to announce the launch of the Kanders Churchill Scholarship for the 2017 Churchill Scholarship competition, for attendance at Churchill College, University of Cambridge, in the 2018-19 academic year.

The Churchill Scholarship dates to 1963 and was established at the request of Sir Winston Churchill to increase cooperation between the USA and United Kingdom in advancing science and technology. Today, there are 15 Scholarships awarded each year to US graduates from one of our Participating Institutions (for eligibility and criteria see www.churchillscholarship.org). The Kanders Churchill Scholarship will bring that number to 16.

The Kanders Churchill Scholar will hold a bachelor’s degree in science, mathematics, or engineering, and will attend the Cambridge Master’s in Public Policy (see http://www.polis.cam.ac.uk/study-at-polis/graduates/MPhilPP).

The selection process will be different from that for the other 15 Churchill Scholars. Applicants for the Kanders Churchill Scholarship must be US citizens who have graduated with a degree in science, mathematics, or engineering, from any US institution within the past two years. Unlike the other Churchill Scholarships, there will be no application to the Churchill Foundation. Instead, candidates will tick a box on their Cambridge application (see http://www.graduate.study.cam.ac.uk/). The deadline is October 11, 2017. As with all Churchill Scholarships, applicants must put Churchill College as their first college choice. The selection process will be completed in early February. The Selection Committee will consider candidates’ academic achievements in STEM as well as their preparation for the Master’s in Public Policy.

Rangel Graduate Fellowship Program Deadline Sept. 21

The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program is now accepting applications for the 2018 Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowship Program at www.rangelprogram.org!  The fellowship funds graduate study (and more) for seniors and young alumni interested in pursuing careers in the foreign service. Candidates from minority groups underrepresented in the foreign service, women, and those with high financial need encouraged to apply.

The Rangel Graduate Fellowship is a U.S. Department of State program, administered by Howard University that seeks to attract and prepare outstanding young people for careers as Foreign Service Officers in the U.S. Department of State. Candidates must be graduating seniors or college graduates with strong academic records and a desire to promote positive change in the world. The program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, women and those with financial need.  Applicants with any undergraduate major are welcome to apply. Selected fellows will receive support for graduate school and will enter into exciting and rewarding careers representing the United States overseas.

Program Benefits

  • An orientation to the Program and the Foreign Service at Howard University in Washington, D.C. in late spring 2018
  • Two summer internships, one on Capitol Hill in summer 2018 and one overseas at a U.S. embassy in summer 2019.
  • Up to $37,500 annually toward tuition, fees and living expenses for a two-year master’s degree in fields related to the Foreign Service such as Business Administration, Economics, Public Policy, and International Relations at a U.S.-based institution.
  • Mentoring from a Foreign Service Officer throughout the duration of the fellowship.
  • Employment in the State Department Foreign Service for those who successfully complete the program and meet Foreign Service entry requirements, in accordance with applicable law and State Department policy, with each Rangel Fellow committing to a minimum of five years of service.

Eligibility requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Seeking admission to graduate school in fall 2018 for a two-year program in an area of relevance to the Foreign Service at a U.S.-based institution
  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale at the time of application

About the U.S. Foreign Service

Foreign Service Officers in the U.S. Department of State are responsible for formulating, implementing and supporting U.S. foreign policy. Their work includes analyzing political and economic events around the world; negotiating with foreign governments; assisting U.S. citizens abroad; educating foreign audiences about American culture and values; and managing an embassy’s operations. They are engaged in foreign policy issues such as conflict resolution, human rights, environmental and health issues, nuclear nonproliferation, and educational exchange. A Foreign Service career is much more than just a job; it is a uniquely demanding and rewarding way of life. Foreign Service Officers work in Washington and in more than 250 diplomatic posts worldwide. As representatives of the United States, Foreign Service Officers have a direct impact on people’s lives, witness history in the making, and help create and implement U.S. policy.

Info Sessions Coming Soon for Watson, Fulbright, British and Schwarzman Scholarships

The fellowships office will host information sessions in the spring semester for students interested in learning more and applying to the Watson, Fulbright, British, and Schwarzman Scholarships. Look here for dates and times shortly. A few notes:

  1. Students interested in applying for Rhodes, Marshall, Churchill or Mitchell Scholarship nomination MUST submit an internal application by April 7. See our website  for more info.
  2. Students interested in applying for the Fulbright and Watson fellowships are STRONGLY encouraged to submit a preliminary application for these by April 15. This does not commit you to applying, but will help you get started in a timely way.

Students are not eligible to apply in the fall 2018 application cycle are still encouraged to attend the info sessions and learn more!
