UK, Watson, Fulbright Info Sessions 2/18 and 2/20

The fellowships office is holding two information sessions:

2/18 at 4:30pm in Library 201: Learn about fellowships to the UK and Ireland! These include the Churchill, Gates-Cambridge, Marshall, Mitchell, Rhodes and St. Andrews. Many require nomination by Middlebury to apply. Learn about the fellowships and the applications processes.

2/20 at 4:30pm in Axinn 232: Learn more about the Fulbright and Watson fellowships–what they are, how to apply and more.

Reminder: Nov. 10 Nomination Application Deadlines for Goldwater, Truman, Beinecke, St. Andrews

For Juniors (graduating Feb or May 2021)

Beinecke Scholarship: Funding for graduate study in humanities and social sciences. Juniors only. Must have 3.7+ GPA, documented financial need, US citizen or US national. Nomination applications due Nov 10; see go/beinecke.

Goldwater Scholarship: Tuition award, STEM students planning research careers. Sophomores and juniors eligible. Must have 3.7+ GPA, US citizen or US national. Nomination applications due Nov 10; see go/goldwater.
Truman Scholarship: Funding for public service-related graduate degree. Juniors only. Strong GPA, US citizen, record of leadership and public service. Nomination applications due Nov 10; see go/truman.

For Seniors (graduating Feb or May 2020)

St. Andrews Scholarship: Funding for one year of graduate study in Scotland. Seniors/super-seniors only.  Must have 3.7+ GPA, financial need, US citizen, some Scottish ancestry. Nomination applications due Nov 10; see go/standrews.

USAID Donald Payne International Development Graduate Fellowship Deadline Nov. 1

The USAID Donald Payne International Development Graduate Fellowship is now accepting applications for the 2020 Cohort of Payne Fellows.  The Payne Fellowship seeks to attract and prepare outstanding individuals for careers as USAID Foreign Service Officers.  Candidates can be graduating seniors or college graduates with strong academic records and a desire to promote positive change in the world. The Payne program encourages the application of members of historically  underrepresented  groups in  the  Foreign  Service  and those  with  financial  need.  Selected  fellows  will  receive support  for  graduate  school  and  gain  employment  with USAID. Program Benefits

  • Orientation in Washington, D.C. in late spring 2020
  • Two summer internships, one on Capitol Hill in summer 2020 and one
  • overseas at a USAID Mission in summer 2021.
  • Up to $22,000 annually toward tuition, fees and living expenses for a two-year master’s degree in fields related to the Foreign Service such as development, economics, public administration, business administration, global health, agriculture, or environmental science  at a U.S.-based
  • institution.
  • Mentoring from a Foreign Service Officer.
  • Employment in the USAID Foreign Service for those who successfully
  • complete the program and meet Foreign Service entry requirements;
  • minimum of five years of service commitment.

  • Seeking admission to graduate school in fall 2020 for a two-year program in an area of relevance to the Foreign Service at a U.S.-based institution
  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale at the time of application

FKD Fellowship with US State Dept., Deadline Nov 7; CCI Info Session 10/8 at 4:30

Want to pursue a career in national security, foreign affairs, or humanitarian assistance? Apply for the Frasure-Kruzel-Drew Memorial Fellowship to help manage Conventional Weapons Destruction programs in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs. College seniors, graduate students, and recent grads are eligible.

During this two-year paid fellowship, you will oversee conventional munitions threat reduction and humanitarian demining projects while collaborating with foreign governments, NGOs, international organizations, and other U.S. government agencies. Previous fellows have gone on to successful careers with the U.S. Department of State, UN, NGOs, and private sector.

The FKD Fellowship is administered by James Madison University’s Center for International Stabilization and Recovery. Apply by November 7, 2019 at https://www.jmu.edu/cisr/other/fellowship.html . Application requires letters of recommendation, so start working on this early!
